Colin W. McIntyre, age 96, of Bad Axe, Passed away on Sunday,December 30, 2012. He was born on August 20, 1916 in Bad Axe, son of the late Colin and Cynthia (Clark) McIntyre. He married Emma Schelke in 1943 in Ubly. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2001 Colin was an active charter member of the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene. He farmed for several years, worked for the City of Bad Axe, and was employed by the Huron Daily Tribune, Retiring in 1988. He served in the US Army in the 1852nd Unit, 8th Service Command.

Janice E. Gaeth, age 66 of Gagetown, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 29.2012. Janice was born January 28, 1946 to George and Norma (Borchardt) Cooper of Detroit, Michigan. She married Donald Gaeth May 4, 1968 at New Salem Lutheran Church, Pastor C.W. Voss, in Sebewaing. Shortly after thier marriage, janice sas baptized and confirmed in to the church. Janice worked as a secretary at New Salem Lutheran Church in Sebewaing for over 28 years. She also worked as a kindergarten helper at New Salem Lutheran School for many years. She also enjoyed decorating cakes, sketching, and doing art projects with school children.

Mary graduated from Port Austin High School and attended Central Michigan University before returning home to work at her family’s business, Clancy Brothers Excavating, later serving as Port Austin Township Treasurer. She was a vibrant outspoken woman who loved to work and help people solve problems. Mary also enjoyed traveling, was an excellent cook and took great care and satisfaction in raising her two sons, and spending time with her grandson.

David James Lewis, 62 of Pigeon, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Huron Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe. Born in Madison, Wisconsin on February 10, 1950, David was the son of James White and Gloria Elizabeth (Lemmel) Lewis. He graduated in 1968 from Shawnee Mission South High School in Overland Park, Kansas, and was a 1973 Cum Laude graduate of Northern Michigan University. On June 13, 1992 he was united in marriage to Jane Lowe at the Caseville United Methodist Church. David was a former member of Ducks Unlimited, the Whitetails Association, and the Pigeon Lions Club. He was active in previous years with the Pigeon Little League, serving for many years as Vice President. As "Captain Dave," he offered the Huron County Fishing Report for Wlew radio. David enjoyed clowning as Dusty D Clown and won an award from the Michigan Clowning Association, and also won national recognition in a clowning competition in Minnesota. Dave was a Lionel train collector. He enjoyed introducing his son Trevor to hunting. He dearly loved and cared for his family. Dave was a faithful, active member of Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon.

Raymond L. Burleson, 52, of Owendale died unexpectedly Thursday, December 27, 2012 in Caro. He was born October 24, 1960 in Wayne, MI to James and Yvonne (Mittlestat) Burleson. He married Kelly M. Clancy Woods September 14, 2007 in Bad Axe. Ray graduated from Cass City High School in 1978. He worked as a machinist for several area companies including CKS in Bad Axe and currently as a Machinist Supervisor for Mi-Tech Tooling Inc. in Caro. He was a member of the Cass City Lions Club. Ray enjoyed working in his yard, photography and golfing. Ray took a great deal of pride in the Hi Fidelity speaker systems he built.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, Daughter, Judy Glaza, son-in-law Jerry Herp, grandsons, Jeffery Herp and Jonathan Nugent, brothers Milford Stirrett, Robert Stirrett, Archie Stirrett and sister Lois McDowell.
Dorothy Jean Nugent passed away peacefully on December 25, 2012 with family by her side. She passed away under Henry Ford Hospital Hospice care following complications from a fall. Dorothy was born in Bad Axe to Alex & Ethel (Hall) Stirrett. She Married John Warren Nugent on September 2, 1944 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bad Axe. They enjoyed over 60 years together before he passed away in 2005. Dorothy and John worked, lived and raised their family in the Bad Axe / Ubly area for the first 30 years of their marriage before building their dream home on the site of their cottage on Coldwater Lake in Weidman, MI. Dorothy graduated from Bad Axe High School and began working at Michigan Bell. She was a member of the Bad Axe Presbyterian church and later the Mt. Pleasant First Presbyterian Church. Dorothy and her husband John created many fond memories for family and friends at their cottage and later their home on Coldwater Lake. Dorothy truly loved visitors and sitting on the deck enjoying the activities on the water.

Lorna M. Knoblock was born on June 15, 1929 in Sandusky, daughter of the late Maurice and Blanche (Freel) McCarty. Lorna married Walter Knoblock on December 23, 1960. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1987. Lorna was a very active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, a Lector, and in many other ways. She was also a Member of the daughters of Isabella and the Holy Rosary Sodality at St. Michaels. Lorna enjoyed working around her house and learning new things, but her family was the most important thing in her life.

She enjoyed attending the kids sporting events, cooking, and baking. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Rapson.

Eldon “Dean” W. Fulcher age 86, of Cass City, died Thursday morning, December 20, at Northwood Meadows, Cass City. He was born March 17, 1926 in Cass City to the late Frederick and Ethel (Vance) Fulcher. Dean served his country in the US Army during WW II in Europe returning home in 1946. On January 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Yvonne J. Stewart in Keego Harbor and made their home in Pontiac. In 1967, they moved to Cass City and he took a position at Marlette Homes as a cabinet maker, retiring in 1987 for health reasons. Giving him 20 years of service. Dean was a life member and past commander of the Cass City VFW Post #3644. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycles, music golf and all sports. He also still loved doing woodworking.

Janet graduated from Clintondale High School in 1961 and had attended her 50th class reunion last year. On July 15, 1987, she was united in marriage to James K. Van Sumer in Warren. Janet owned and operated her own business in Warren, “Friend Ceramics” for 20 years, retiring in 2003. In 2005, she and Jim moved to their home in Hume Twp. just east of Oak Beach. She was a member of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary and loved gardening an being out of doors.

Christine is survived by her children: Yvonne (Bruce) LeValley of Cass City, Rick Erla of Hernando Mississippi. Grandchildren Trent (Mindy) LeValley, Nathan LeValley and Mindy’s son Brendon. She is preceded in death by her brother, Jose Rodolfo.
Christine M. Erla, 88, of Cass City, died following a long illness on Monday, December 17, 2012 in Covenant Health Care System, Cooper Campus, Saginaw. She was born June 10, 1924 in San Antonio, Texas to Jessie and Margaret (Benavidez) Martinez. She married Richard “Dick” Erla on January 19, 1946 in Imlay City. He died November 7, 2011. Christine enlisted in the U.S. Navy after her 18th birthday. She worked as a Teletype Operator in the Navy. It was in the dental chair she met Dick as he was working as a Dental Technition also serving in the U.S. Navy. After their service in the military, they returned to the Erla family farm in Imlay City and helped raise Dick’s younger brothers and sisters. Christine was a very active member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church and a member of their Woman’s Alter Society. She was a member of Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and Hills and Dales Hospital Auxiliary. Christine was a supportive volunteer for Cass City Historical Society when it began, Rawson Memorial Liabrary, Elmwood Quilting Club and American Legion Post #7 in Caro. Christine was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was most comfortable in the kitchen cooking for a house full of friends and family. She would deliver a communion to the sick and would take them food also. Christine was God Mother for over 20 people.

Roberta is survived by many cousins and friends.
Roberta was born on November 15, 1922 at her family home in McKinley Township, the daughter of Robert and Gertrude (Gwinn) Richmond. Roberta attended Mud Creek grade school, and was a graduate of Pigeon High School in 1940. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pigeon. During her professional career, Roberta devoted herself to the Pigeon District Library where she was Librarian for 17 years. When she began working at the library, she usually worked alone. Then Mrs. Ralph Klein joined her as her assistant. By the time she retired in 1987, she had a staff of several people and had seen two expansions to the library building. While the library grew on the outside, Roberta helped it grow on the inside. She spearheaded the preschool story hour, preschool parents coffee hour, the toy program, senior citizen movie festivals, meet-the-candidates panel, and the quilters groups and displays. An avid reader herself, she saw the number of books at the library triple during her years there. With every program, she had an important goal: “to bring more people, more children, into the library.” Before taking the position of head librarian, Roberta was secretary at Pigeon High School for about 13 years, followed by nine years at Thumb Publications, Inc. She also had 10 years with W.R. McIntyre Insurance. Roberta was an active community volunteer working with the Scheurer Hospital Auxiliary, the First United Methodist Women, and the GFWC Pigeon Area Womans Club (Pigeon Worthwhile Club). In 1986 she received the honor of being selected as the Senior Woman of the Year. In 2011 Roberta was chosen as Grand Marshall of the Pigeon Farmers’ Festival Parade.

She was predeceased by her parents and grandparents, William and Alice (Dawson) Pangman, step-grandfather Albert Klump and Peter and Louise (Seltz) Priemer.
Lois A. Wood, 70, of Harbor Beach passed away peacefully on December 16, 2012 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe after an extended illness. Lois was born on May 26, 1942 in Harbor Beach, the daughter of Wesley E. and Myra C. (Priemer) Pangman. She graduated from Harbor Beach Community School in 1960 and became a Registered Nurse in 1962 upon graduation from the Bronson Hospital School of Nursing in Kalamazoo. Lois worked in a variety of medical positions over the years and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Michigan. After returning to Harbor Beach to live, she opened the Thumb Home Health Care Agency in 1984. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Harbor Beach and sang in the choir over the years. She loved music, the arts, painting, and taught piano lessons for a number of years.

Elaine Mary Brown, Age 76, of Filion, MI., passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe, MI., surrounded by her family. She was born on November 18, 1936 in Unionville, MI., daughter of the late John C. and Mary (Matten) Herman. She married Robert D. Brown on May 9, 1959 in the Kinde Presbyterian Church. The couple Celebrated 53 years of marriage this year. Elaine was a graduate of the Unionville High School Class of 1954. She attended Northeastern School of Commerce. She co-owned and operated Robert Brown Dairy Equipment along with her husband, Bob, from it’sfounding in 1962 until her retirement in 1999. She was a member of the Kinde Presbyterian Church. Elaine loved spending time with her grandchildren, attending sporting and band events, reading, game shows, cardinals, cows, rides in her classic convertibles, and time at their cabin

Allie O. Karl, age 75, of Pigeon died Friday morning, December 14 at her home with her family by her side. She was born February 25, 1937 in Roopville, GA to the late Vaughn and Nora (Knott) Smith. On September 20, 1958, she was united in marriage to Howard J. Karl in Newnan, GA. Howard was in the Army, so they traveled around the world with their family for 20 years. While living in Newnan GA in 1977, she helped found the Senior Citizen Center. In 1978, they moved to Michigan, settling in Pigeon. Allie was an active member of the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton, and a former Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed dancing, fishing, cooking and, visiting and spending time with friends and especially family.

Leslie Jay Andrews, 68, resident of Bad Axe, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Huron Medical Center after an apparent heart attack. He was born February 24, 1944 in Cass City to the late Ervin and Edith (Parker) Andrews. Leslie and Pauline Smith were united in marriage on October 29, 1976 at the Bad Axe First Baptist Church. Pauline went home to be with her Lord on March 24, 1999. He graduated from Owendale High School. Leslie retired from Towers Automotive in Elkton after 33 years of employment. He attended the Owendale United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors and wood crafting.

He is also survived by a sister-in-law Doris Bosch of Kalamazoo.
DR. ROBERT F. BOSCH, age 91 of Harbor Beach, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 at his home under hospice care. He was born on August 20, 1921 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Frank and Helen (Kroneberger) Bosch. Dr. Bob and Helen Fitzpatrick were united in marriage on January 15, 1947 in Alma. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2001. Dr. Bob enlisted in the US Army on August 1, 1942. Shortly there after he was inducted in to the Office of Strategic Services, now known as the Central Intelligence Agency. He spent time in India living in Tents and training to parachute into China, behind Japanese enemy lines, where they would be blowing up specific targets. He was even given a special “Pill” to take if he was captured, to kill himself so no information could be shared. Dr. Bob was discharged as a first lieutenant on October 19, 1945 earning one bronze star. He remained in the officers reserves until 1992. After serving during World War II, Dr. Bob attended the Illinois College of Optometry, which led him to his practice in Harbor Beach, and later Bad Axe, before retiring in 1985. Dr. Bob was a member of the Harbor Beach Lions Club, the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach, the American Optometric Association, and the Harbor Beach United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing at Verona Hills Golf Club.
