Biography

Mrs. Grace C. Graff, age 98, of Palms passed away, Monday, December 30th at Deckerville Hospital. She was born on September 17, 1915 in Detroit to the late William and Lucy (Partaka) Zdrojewski. She married Edward Graff on October 17, 1936 at St. Patrick Church in Palms. He preceded her in death on December 15, 1972. Grace attended Palms School and was a former officer of the St. Patrick Alter Society. She enjoyed visiting with her family, playing dominoes, sewing, quilting, crocheting, puzzles and word search. She worked at Deckerville Hospital in housekeeping for a few years and worked at General Cable in Cass City.

Hazel M. Kramer, age 92, of Sebewaing, passed away Monday morning, December 30, 2013. Hazel was born September 24, 1921 in Bach to the late Otto and Louise (Fritz) Schairer. She married Edgar A. Kramer April 22, 1944 in Detroit. Hazel was a Sebewaing area farmer and delivered eggs to neighborhood homes. She was a lifelong member at Immanuel Lutheran Church, and enjoyed playing bingo and gardening.

Renee Rae Randall, Ubly, age 36 left behind those she dearly loved on December 30th, 2013 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Renee was born on March 29,1977 in Cass city, daughter of Leonard and Fay Randall, granddaughter of Charles and Peggy Greyerbiehl of Filion, and the late Sam and Marjorie Randall of Bad Axe. Renee graduated from Bad Axe High School, Class of 1995. She worked as a waitress at Buds Bar, Verona Tavern, China King, Blue Water, Signature Bank, and Bay Port State Bank. Renee will be greatly missed by her many friends who stood beside her during the good times and the difficult times in her life.

In 1942 Joyce lived with her father and stepmother Luella Richmond. She attended Pinnebog School through ninth grade and went to Pigeon High School to finish high school. She then attended Bay City Junior College for her associates degree in science. She received her BSN in 1950 from the University of Michigan, AnnArbor. > > On October 21, 1950 she married Chester William Lackie at the First United Methodist Church, Pigeon. He died January 28, 1994. > > Joyce worked at Alexander Blain Hospital as an O.R. Nurse. After her children were in school, she taught nursing for 18 years at Henry Ford Community College. The couple retired to Rochester Hills until 1986 when they moved to Caseville. Joyce was a member of Caseville United Methodist Church, where she taught adult Sunday school and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Caseville Library Club, the Scheurer Hospital Auxiliary, and the Caseville Historical Society.

LYLE L. MORLEY, age 92, of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Courtney Manor Nursing Center of Bad Axe. He was born on August 10, 1921 in Akron to the late Samuel George and Lois (Parker) Morley. Lyle and Barbara June Brown were united in marriage on June 28, 1941. She preceded him in death on September 23, 2001. Lyle served over seas in the US Army during World War II. Lyle worked as the Waste Treatment Operator at Hercules Inc., retiring in 1983 after 44 years of service. Lyle was a member of the Harbor Beach Fire Department, where he served as assistant chief, was Post Commander for the VFW Post of Harbor Beach, and was a service officer. Lyle enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spending time with his family.

He was born on April 1, 1923 in Port Hope to the late William and Bertha (Finkel) Collison. Delbert and Alma Feldt were united in marriage on September 21, 1946 in Detroit. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1991. Delbert worked for the GM Plant Security, before retiring in 1980 after 30 years of service. Delbert then married Dora Pleiness on August 22, 1992 in Port Hope. Delbert is a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope and the our Savior Lutheran Church in Zephrhills, Florida. He was also a member of the Port Hope Retirees, the Harbor Beach Retirees and the Kinde Retirees. He enjoyed canning and playing cards.

Benjamin “Ben” I. Rocha, age 82, of Sebewaing, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 at his home. Ben was born May 12, 1931 to the late Nabor & Frumensia (Perez) Rocha. He is a Sebewaing High School graduate. After school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp. On November 27, 1954 he married Janice Kuhl at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sebewaing. He worked for 38 years at U.S. Graphite. He enjoyed playing baseball with the Mighty River Hogs of Midland County, watching all sports, yard work and playing guitar.

She was Born February 19, 1920 in Parisville, MI daughter of August and Otylia (Uller) Abraham. She married Joseph Langenburg on March 2, 1941 in Argyle, MI He preceded her in death on August 15, 1966. She married George Shaw on February 14, 1975. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2009. Rita was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church in Pi8nnebog. She enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, dancing, and wintering in Florida. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren as well as the rest of her loving family and many friends.

Biography

Christopher Terry Stirrett, 38, lifelong resident of Kinde passed away unexpectedly after a short illness. He was born on December 8, 1975 in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of Terry and the late Joanne (Koroleski) Stirrett. He and Melissa DePatty were married on December 18, 1999 at the Kinde Presbyterian Church. Chris was a 1994 graduate of North Huron High School. It was in school that he met his wife, Melissa DePatty. They had just celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary Chris was a member of the Kinde Area Fire Department since 1993 and for the past year served as Chief. Chris earned his Paramedic license in 1999 and worked for Bay Medical Center, Community EMS, and Central Huron Ambulance Services. He served as coordinator of Central Huron since 2005. In addition to his volunteer work Chris was employed as a 911 Dispatcher for Huron County since August 2000. Emergency services was his life-long passion and it brought him immense joy to be able to live and work in this community.

EDWARD EUGENE STEINHARDT, age 31, of St. Louis, MO died Monday, December 23. He was born in Danville, VA., the son of George Francis Steinhardt, M.D. and Julia Yagel Steinhardt. Edward graduated from Ladue Horton Watkins High School in St. Louis MO before attending Denison University. He was a walk on swimmer successfully achieving a place on perennial Division 2 championship swim team. After graduating from college with a BS degree in Biology he attended graduate school in Chicago at DePaul University. He then worked in the international pharmaceutical industry in Naperville, IL for 6 years. Most recently, Edward was employed by Thomas Industrial Coatings of St. Louis, MO as a project manager stationed in Duluth, Minnesota. Edward succumbed to exposure and hypothermia braving blizzard conditions that entrapped his vehicle. He died trying to come home for Christmas. Devoted and loyal to family and friends, Edward showed steadfast compassion, positive energy, and boundless love to all. While he enjoyed playing the guitar, writing poetry, and working out, generating laughter and good humor were his forte. Edward was a truly a free spirit. He had a positive impact on everybody he encountered. A conscientious and diligent employee, he worked extremely hard.

She was born November 19, 1943 in Colfax Twp. to the late Harvey and Eva (Refenbark) McMullen and grew up in the Bad Axe area. On September 25, 1968, she was united in marriage to Robert B. Erb at the Elkton Methodist Church. She and Bob made their home in Elkton where they raised two children. Bob preceded her in death August 23, 1998. Evelyn was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church and in her free time, she enjoyed knitting crocheting and especially loved playing bingo.

He was predeceased by his father, John.

Biography

He was born July 28, 1956 in Detroit, son of John and Billie (Baker) Mack. On Dec. 1, 2001 he married the former Debby Bernheim in Manchester, MI. Joe worked as a C and C Machinist in the Automotive and Steel Industries and as an over the road truck driver, he served in the U S Army during the Vietnam war, working in communications, he loved his Harley Motorcycle and especially loved activities with his sons, such as Scouting, sports and camping.

Joyce Diane (LeDuke) Gordon, 72, resident of Bad Axe, formerly of Garden City, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013 surrounded by her family at Midmichigan Medical Center – Gratiot in Alma, Michigan. She was born August 28, 1941 in Detroit to the late Francis and Edna (Watson) LeDuke. Joyce was the loving mother of Darlene Engel, Richard Engel, Joyce Josaitis, Nathan (Meiyee) Gordon, IV; She was the proud grandmother of Richard, Chelsie, Alec, Natalie, Nadia and extended grandmother to Elizabeth and Kevin; two great-children and many loving and caring friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Engel. Early in her life, Joyce was a registered nurse at Providence Hospital and cared greatly for others. She will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, great faith and remarkable courage. We would like to acknowledge special thanks to Courtney Manor for the great care they provided in her later years and countless others who assisted in her care and contributed to her well-being.

Kent William Henne, 66 of Pigeon, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born in Pigeon on July 26, 1947 to Kenneth John and Mary Louise (Jerome) Henne, and was a 1966 Laker High School graduate. On September 5, 1966 he was united in marriage to Mary A. Prutchick at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. Kent served in Viet Nam with the U.S. Army, and was an active Army Reserve member for over 19 years. He was a member of the VFW Pigeon Post 2236. Kent worked several jobs throughout his lifetime. He worked as a farmhand, was a mechanic, and a supervisor at Active Industries in Elkton. He attended the Bay Port United Methodist Church.

Biography

Peter A. Paseshnik, 71, of Deford, died following a short illness Wednesday, December 18, 2013 in his home. He was born July 15, 1942 in Detroit to Peter and Julia (Wenta) Paseshnik. He married Rosemary Watters in Detroit. She died February 1981. He later married Vina Myus. Peter served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Bulldog Electric in Detroit for a short time then began a 30 year career with Detroit Diesel as a test operator. Peter collected tractors, farm equipment and gas engines. He enjoyed hockey, playing in his younger years and watching now. Peter enjoyed riding and collecting motorcycles. After spending much of his life in Detroit the woods of the Thumb called him to come live up here. He enjoyed walking through the woods, watching and raising animals, riding his four wheeler and spending time with his family and friends. Peter was a member of Polish American Club, Thumb Draft Horse Association, Caro Tractor Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Caro Aerie #3587. Peter also enjoyed politics and the debates that went along with them.

Frances A. Becking, 77, resident of Sheridan Township, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at McLaren Bay Region, Bay City. She was born October 3, 1936 in Harbor Beach to the late Frank and Julia (Kucharczyk) Lackowski. Fran was united in marriage to Robert Becking on September 9, 1956. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2010. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bad Axe. Fran retired in 1996 from Citizen’s Federal after 29 years of service. She enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds. Fran liked playing bingo, visiting casinos and spending time with her family and friends.

George Robert Roeber, 89 of Bay Port, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born in Bay Port at the Quarry in the family home on July 28, 1924 and was the son of the late William and Mary (Rehbein) Roeber. On August 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to Virginia Kain in Bad Axe. George graduated from the Quarry School. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy as a Gunners Mate in the Pacific aboard the USS Shamrock Bay, the USS Sargent Bay, and the USS Curtis. Through the years he worked many different jobs, including 47 years at the stone quarry, and retired from Burroughs Co. He attended the Bay Port United Methodist Church.

She was born June 4, 1925 in Middle Inlet, Wisconsin to the late Joseph J. and Pauline (Melton) Zacharek. On August 7, 1948 she united in marriage to Leonard Shedd at St. John Lutheran Church in Wayne, Michigan. He preceded her in death May 5, 2008. Evelyn was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. She enjoyed painting with water colors, golfing, playing bridge, dancing, crocheting, cross stitching and sewing clothes for herself. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Thelma C. Warner, age 92 of Pigeon, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Courtney Manor, Bad Axe. She was born in Flynn Township of Sanilac County on November 2, 1921 and was daughter of the late Walter and Beulah (Dale) Ford. On January 31, 1942 she was united in marriage to Winford F. Warner in Sandusky. He preceded her in death on February 5, 2001. Thelma and Winford had been married for 59 years. Thelma was a 1939 graduate of Marlette High School and later moved to the Detroit area where she worked at Federal Department Store, the Livonia Public School System, and retired from Unisys Corporation (formerly Burroughs Corporation) in 1982, having worked for the company for 13 years. She was a member of Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon, and especially enjoyed the activities, as well as being a member of the Red Hat Society.

Dolores was a gracious and gentle lady who had a strong Christian Faith and love of family. She married Albert Klann in 1946 and resided in Sebewaing and Rogers City before moving to Harbor Beach. She attended Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Harbor Beach.
