Biography

MARJORIE C. WRUBLE, age 94 of Harbor Beach, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in Harbor Beach. She was born on March 6, 1922 in Harbor Beach to the late David and Susie (Olshove) Suida. Marjorie and Clarence Wruble were united in marriage on December 29, 1945 in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1981. Together with her husband, Clarence and family, Marjorie owned and operated Wruble Elevator. She was a member of: Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, the OLLH Altar Society, Harbor Beach Garden Club, Verona Hills Golf Club, Harbor Beach Dance Club, Euchre Club, Bridge Club, and the Harbor Beach Athletic Association. Marjorie, most of all, loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She loved playing the piano, golf, gardening, flower arranging, bird watching and debating politics. She was an avid fan of the Harbor Beach Pirates, Michigan State University Spartans, and the Detroit Tigers. She loved tailgate meals with family and coach prior to Harbor Beach basketball and football games.

Biography

Lawrence L. Longuski, 87, of Ubly, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2016 at Autumwood of Deckerville. He was born on March 5, 1929 to the late Leo and Victoria (Warchock) Longuski. On December 18, 1976, he married Lillian “Florence” Davison in Ubly. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2002. Lawrence was a member of the Rose Society, the Ubly Fox Hunters Club, the Octagon Barn Auxiliary, the Thumb Two Cylinder Club and was on the Board of Directors on the Huron Aviation Club. He loved gardening, raising orchids, hunting, and restoring vintage airplanes and steam engines.

Josephine Margaret Abed-Rabo, (Ahh-bed-rah-bo) of Saginaw, Michigan loving mother, grandmother and sister was called to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 24, 2016 surrounded by her family. The daughter of the late Cornelius and Florence (Bulla) Sweeney, Josephine was born on February 14, 1951 in Cass City, Michigan. Josephine graduated from Ubly High School and attended Delta College. She worked at Covenant HealthCare for a number of years as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Josephine was a very devoted Catholic and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Biography

Glenn J. Turner, age 87 of Pigeon, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care, Pigeon. He was born in Berkley, Michigan on February 20, 1929 and was the son of Leo and Florence (McPherson) Turner. Soon after birth his family moved to Pigeon. While in high school, Glenn worked at the Pigeon Dairy and Creamery, and graduated from Pigeon High School in 1946. On February 12, 1949 he and Victoria M. Morin were united in marriage at Salem E.U.B. Church in Pigeon. They have been married for over 67 years. After high school Glenn worked as manager for the Pigeon Egg and Processing plant, and later became an award winning Insurance Agent for the Prudential Insurance Company, retiring in 1993. Glenn had worked for the company for over 25 years. Vicky and Glenn have enjoyed wintering in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the past 23 years. Glenn was a faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he held many offices over the years. He was also an active member of the Pigeon Lions Club, having once received the "Lion of the Year" award. Glenn enjoyed golfing and was a member of Century Oaks Golf Course. More than 50 years ago, Glenn and his brother Ron built a cabin retreat near Frederic, Michigan, and throughout the years he and Vicky have enjoyed spending time there with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Glenn was a quiet, kind man and has been admired by his family, friends and community.

Biography

Harold L. Heilig, 82, of Bad Axe, formerly of Port Austin, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2016 at McLaren Bay Regional Hospital. Harold was born in Huron City at home on May 17, 1934 to the late William and Margaret (Oswald) Heilig. He was the 19th out of 21 children. On October 19, 1957, he married Madilyn C. Moore. She preceded him in death in November 1994. On May 16, 1997, he married Darlene Lerash. Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1954 – 1956 during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany. He earned the National Defense Service Medal Army of Occupation Medal. He worked for the Wayne County Road Commission for many years as a foreman. He also owned a tree trimming & stump removal business. Harold loved to play the harmonica, tend to his vegetable garden, going to the stockyards with his brothers, going out to eat especially at Big Boy, and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Robert Goretski, age 94, of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016. Robert was born on January 16, 1922 in Port Austin, son of the late Floyd and Alice (Pincoski) Goretski. Robert (Bob) attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. In 1942 he began his business, Goretski Excavating, with one truck and several shovels. In 1980 the business became incorporated. Bob was proud to have his sons and family members working alongside him in his thriving business. On October 27, 1999, Bob married Pauline Maurer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe.

Betty Lou Barrett, age 86, of Akron, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Bay Shores Senior Center.  She was born in Akron on March 13, 1930, daughter of the late Melvin Stanley and Lula Elizabeth (Schweigert) Winter.  Betty was a graduate of Unionville High School.  She married Earl Knoodle on October 22, 1950.  He preceded her in death in 1976.  She married Francis Barrett on November 11, 1978.  He preceded her in death in 1994.  She was also preceded in death by daughter, Brenda Knoodle, brothers Keith Winter and Gene Winter and sisters, Ilene Dippel and Irene Jones and special friends, Al Wilde and Lois Kerr. She was a member of the Wisner United Methodist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Fairgrove.  She enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, playing cards and loved going for “ice cream” (casinos).  Most precious to her were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her tender spirit leaves a legacy to all who knew her.   The family sends a heartfelt thank you to Bay Shores and Heartland Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion.

Marilyn J. Essenmacher (Booms), 82 of Harbor Beach, passed away Tuesday December 19th, 2016 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 27th 1934 in Harbor Beach to the late Clarence and Laura (Scholtz) Booms. Marilyn married her husband of 57 years, Lloyd Essenmacher on June 20th, 1953 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helena. Marilyn dedicated her life to serving family, friends and community through sewing, quilting, baking pies and care of others. She was a seamstress extraordinaire, sewing for local businesses and members of the community for over sixty years. Marilyn loved spending time with others and playing with her grandchildren. She created hundreds of quilts and rag rugs for family and the needy. Marilyn was an active member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church.

PALMS – Leonard “Lenny” Arthur Pohl, 65, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 18, 2016 at his home. Lenny was born April 6, 1951, to the late Edward and Esther Pohl of Palms. Lenny, fondly known as Pohl Cat, graduated from Deckerville Schools, Class of 1969. He was one of the original “Palms Boys” and if you knew Lenny, you knew his Palms Boys “roar”. He was self-employed for many years, and later became a partner of Pohl Brothers Farm. Lenny enjoyed every facet of life to the fullest. He enjoyed snowmobiling, playing cards, drinking beer, making wine, and telling “tall tales”. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, Debbie, his children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Jane Sweeney, 68, of Ubly passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016 surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was born March 14, 1948, to the late Francis and Opal Hund. Jane was a 1966 graduate of Ubly High School and a 1970 graduate of Central Michigan University. Jane was united in marriage to Kenneth Sweeney on June 20, 1970 at St. John Catholic Church and lived her entire adult life in Ubly. Jane spent thirty-six years as an educator, teaching middle school and high school Special Education and middle school science, at the North Huron middle school and Ubly school districts. She enjoyed directing school plays, showed her competitive side coaching the Ubly Quiz Bowl team and was involved with numerous other academic enrichment programs during her career. Jane was passionate about gardening, tending to her flowers beds. She was a lover of all animals and would never hesitate to care for a stray animal. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, all things Elvis, and discussing her favorite salsa and pickle recipes. Jane was a life long member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly where she served for many years as a Eucharistic minister and was a member of the Christian Mothers.

Randy J Bouverette age 58, of lifelong Elkton resident died Saturday evening, December 17 at his home with his family gathered at his bedside. He was born June 25, 1958 in Bad Axe to the late Frederick and Dorothy (Grigg) Bouverette. Randy grew up in Elkton and was a 1976 graduate of Laker High School. On March 15, 1980, he was united in marriage to Debra C. VenEpps at the Elkton Missionary Church, raising their family in Elkton. Randy began working at Wiederhold Freight Line while in high school and giving them 39 years. When they closed, he got a job with Wood Acres Trucking, Bad Axe, leaving them for health reason after 5 years of service. He is a member of the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. His work was his hobby, he also enjoyed fishing and bon fires. Randy loved being with his kids and fixing his families cars.

Armand “Dick” Marrocco, 77, of Caseville, died peacefully at his home on Friday, December 16, 2016. Dick was born October 21, 1939 to the late Virgilio and Palma. He served in the US Army in Korea at a radio relay outpost. He was proud of his 40 year career with Chevrolet Creative Services, retiring in 2000. Following retirement, Dick and Laurie moved to Caseville upon completion of building their dream home together. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working and camping. Dick created numerous custom engineering projects, all of which were a great sense of pride and accomplishment. Together, Dick and Laurie enjoyed traveling. Their highlights included cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean with their family, and trips to their homelands in Italy and Ireland. He was a humble man, of sterling character, with a dry, witty sense of humor who was deeply loved by his family and friends.

Milan Monroe Miller age 90 of Bay Port died December 9, 2016. He was born in Flint on Sept. 27, 1926 to William and Blanche Miller. Miles graduated from Flint Central High School and received his Bachelor Degree from Central Michigan University. He served in the United Stated Army and played trumpet in the Army band. He married Marilyn Wernicke July 29, 1949. Miles was a music educator band director and teacher for several schools beginning at Harrison and retiring from Owen Gage Schools. He was a lifelong musician and trumpet player. He was proficient on many instruments but he favored his trumpet. Even as a young teenager he was playing with several big bands in the Flint area. He played many years in an ensemble named the Staccato’s. Miles played with the Bill Denbrock Big Band for over 27 years.

Donna Lee Robinson, age 85 of Bay Port, passed away at home Friday morning December 9, 2016 with her family at her side. Born in Hazel Park on July 3, 1931, she was the daughter of Harold and Nohldene (Dugal) Draper. On December 5, 1970, she was united in marriage to Robert Charles Robinson at Kirk in the Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. They had been married for 46 years. Donna attended Detroit Business Institute and worked as a secretary for Ford Motor Company for 33 years, retiring January 1, 1988. She enjoyed skiing, and was a member of the Ford Ski Club, often taking trips to northern Michigan and the western states, winning several skiing trophies over the years. Donna and Robert developed their love for camping and caught the camping bug from her in-laws, Mom and Dad Robinson. As a family they camped and toured many states. They attended five camping club rallies throughout their retirement years with their motor home. In addition to her family, Donna had a huge heart for animals. Donna and Bob attended Calvary Baptist Church, Caseville.

She married Elmer Duda on June 18, 1938 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on October 7, 1972. Mildred attended St. Mary Catholic School in Parisville. She was a lifelong Sigel Township farmer. Mildred was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson for 78 years.
