Biography

Wilbur Hubel of Caseville Michigan has passed away at the age of 86 after a long illness. He was born to the late Carl and Carletta Hubel on December 30th 1932 in Harris, Texas. He married his late wife Sue Ann Hubel on October 19th 1951. Mr. Hubel retired from GM and was active for many years at the Caseville F.O.E. Club.

Biography

Carol Ann Cooper, 82, of Caseville passed into Heaven on Christmas morning, December 25, 2019 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. Carol Ann Lee was born on April 14, 1937 to the late Walter and Dorothy (Titsworth) Lee of Vassar. She graduated from Vassar High School in 1955 and later took classes to become a secretary. She worked for 50 years, last place being Caseville United Methodist Church until her retirement. Carol Ann married Richard Everts and had two children. She later married John H. Cooper who survives her. Carol Ann enjoyed any and all card games, especially bridge. She loved to play Scrabble, read, and looking at sunsets out her window facing Saginaw Bay. Most of all she loved family gatherings with lots of food and laughter.

Sherrill L. Barshaw, 84, of Sand Point and Cape Canaveral, Florida died Christmas Eve, December 24, 2019 at home under hospice care. Sherrill was born April 23, 1935 in Detroit to the late Raymond and Eula (Lovell) Casselman. She married Wayne Barshaw April 9, 1982 in Las Vegas. She retired from General Motors as an executive administrative assistant at the Tech Center. She split her time between Sand Point and Cape Canaveral for the past 20 years. She is a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish and the Cape Canaveral American Legion #348. She enjoyed taking casino trips by bus or boat, taking cruises and her favorite sports were horse racing and baseball.

Biography

Orvel Roggenbuck, age 88, of Snover, MI passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 24, while under hospice care with his family at his side. Orvel was born in Harbor Beach, MI on May 31, 1931 to Leo and Clara Roggenbuck. On August 20, 1960 he was united in marriage to Lucille Taschner at St. Columbkille Catholic Church having enjoyed 59 years of marriage. He was a lifetime farmer having worked at home with his family following graduation from East Huron Country School. In 1951, he joined his brothers Charles and Vincent in a partnership that lasted more than 50 years, on the farm in Snover, Mi. In later years, he farmed together with his son, Les, until retirement. Orvel was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sandusky, MI where he was a Eucharistic Minister for mass and for the homebound, lector, parish council member, Saginaw Diocesan Pastoral Council, and religious education teacher. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Snover Coop Elevator Board president, Moore Township Zoning Board, Croswell Sugar Beet Growers Board, Sanilac County Farm Bureau Board, Sanilac County Right to Life Board, and 4-H leader.

Gregory William Alexander, 71, of Bay Port, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe, surrounded by family. Greg was born July 3, 1948 in Pigeon to the late William and Marie (Baur) Alexander. He graduated from Laker High School in 1966. He married Charlene Sprague Chandler on May 16, 2003 in Bay Port. He traveled the world in the US Navy during his 23 years of service, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 on April 1, 1989, having received many commendations and awards. He worked various jobs after his retirement as well as spending time with his grandchildren. His wit and sense of humor was constant and loving. He loved to tease, and he was adored by his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Beatrice “Bea” Sobieray, age 87, of Cass City, formerly of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe, with her family at her side. She was born in Ubly on January 29, 1932, daughter of the late Russell and Grace (Bloomfield) Western. After graduating from Ubly High School in 1951, she married Fred Sobieray on September 1, 1951. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2018. Bea stayed with her brother in Harper Woods while Fred was in the service, where she worked at Chrysler Motors in the billing department. Upon Fred’s return from the service in 1954, they moved to Bad Axe. Bea worked at the seatbelt factory as well as seasonally at the pickle factory. She was also employed at Courtney Manor Nursing Facility for many years before retiring. Bea loved gardening. She was always outside working in it. Beas also loved her crafting and spending time with family and friends.

Dale Lee Howard, age 81, of Bad Axe, went to be with his Lord, with his family by his side on Friday, December 20, 2019. Dale was born in Chandler Township, on February 25, 1938, son of the late Bert and Edith (Maynard) Howard. He married Loraine Balint on November 11, 1961 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Loraine preceded him in death on August 3, 2004. Dale worked many jobs in his lifetime beginning with the family farm. He was a barber in Bad Axe, foreman at Hamill Manufacturing (Seatbelt), an electrician at Michigan Oven and drove semi for 25 years for Neeb Corporation with other stops along the way. Dale was a past member of the Lions Club, taught Catechism, a Webelo leader, Eucharistic minister and was in the Army Reserves. He was a member of St. Hubert Parish in Bad Axe. He loved golfing, camping, hunting, fishing, visiting Walt’s in Caseville with his traveling buddies Mark and Dick and most of all he loved his Lord, family and his grandchildren.

She attended Cass City High School. She married Frank W. Karle II on January 22, 1977 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon; he preceded her in death February 1, 2019. She worked for 36 years at Michigan Sugar in Sebewaing. She enjoyed spending time with her family, riding on motorcycles with her husband, backyard barbeques and working in her garden and flower beds.

Biography

At the age of 84, loving mother of four children, Marie Goretski of Kinde lost her battle with cancer on December 17, 2019. Marie was born November 12, 1935 to the late Karl and Margaret Byarski. Marie attended North Huron Schools where she graduated Salutatorian and was united in marriage to Edward Goretski on September 7, 1957. The couple made Kinde their home, started a family and raised four beautiful daughters. She retired from First of America bank in Kinde and managed the bookkeeping for her and Ed’s business, “Thumb Excavating.” She was a lifelong member of St Mary/St Edward Catholic church of Kinde. Marie’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially enjoying her grand and great grandchildren. She and Ed loved hosting people at their beautiful “Honeymoon” cottage in the woods. She was the light in the room whenever she walked in; her loving smile was contagious to everyone she met. She loved animals, birds, visiting, helping those in need, going to the casino, bowling, playing cards and spending time with those she loved. Marie was a caregiver to everyone, a mother and grandmother to anyone in need, the size of her heart is only eclipsed by the amount of joy she gave others in return.

Carol Ann Mayra, 77, of Caseville died Monday, December 16, 2019 at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Carol was born March 7, 1942 in Detroit to the late Karl and Theresa Swanson and moved to Redford Twp at the age of eight. She graduated from Redford Union High School in 1959 at the age of seventeen. On April 8, 1961 she was united in marriage to Raymond J. Mayra at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Redford Twp. She accompanied Ray in the US Air Force for the remainder of his tour of duty. Returning to Nankin Twp (Westland) after Ray’s military service was completed, she became a homemakers and mother of three children. Later she moved to Hamburg, Michigan (Gallagher Lake) to raise the family. She returned to work as a school bus driver for 3 years, a secretary at DAPCO Corp for 3 years and 13 years at the University of Michigan as a graduate secretary in computer science and electrical engineering. Upon retirement she moved to Caseville and joined Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. Carol loved her children and grandchildren, and especially loved having her grandchildren stay with her during summers, swimming, pontoon boating, bike riding and playing games.

Biography

Ethan Richard Andrews, 27, of Ubly passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019 at McLaren Thumb Region. Ethan was born on July 23, 1992 to Russel and Sherry (Bensinger) Andrews at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Saint Marie where he was then transferred to U of M Motts Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor due to CHD. Ethan had a very good life laughing and playing pranks on his mom and sister, Kristina, to whom he was very close to both. He enjoyed swinging on his swing in the back yard and watching his superhero cartoons on tv, especially Paw Patrol, Spiderman and Batman. Ethan loved going to Florida to see all the characters at Disney. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog, Chance and sending him after his sister, Kris. Ethan liked bon fires, road trips, reading his books and drawing in his sketch book.

Mildred "Millie" Joan Steciak, age 92, of Bad Axe, passed away at her home of natural causes on Thursday, December 12, 2019. Millie was born on July 6, 1927 to the late Ralph and Mary (Smith) Williams in Port Huron, MI. She worked at Dibbles, Glass Ben Franklin, and Hallmark for many years.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her infant son, Samuel; grandson, Adam Reinke; granddaughter, Michelle Reinke; her great-grandson, Zachery Reinke; her great-granddaughter, Carly Reinke; her brothers: Donald and Edwin (Shirley) Sams; son in law, Daniel Bruce and brothers-in-law: Norman Kinney and William Hoops.

Dorothy L. Reinke, 82, of Elkton, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2019 in Saginaw, Michigan. Dorothy was born in Bad Axe on July 5, 1937 to the late Lawrence and Martha (Bredow) Sams. On August 23, 1953, she married William Reinke. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1985. Dorothy moved to Elkton in April 2000, previously living in Port Hope. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, gardening and baking. She was famous for her homemade breads and pizzas.

Biography

Rose Marie Geiger, a long time resident of Harbor Beach, died Tuesday, December 10, 2019. She passed peacefully after a short and intense battle against ovarian cancer. Rose Marie was born on September 25, 1947 in Parisville, MI to Andrew and Rose Woycik. With her loving husband of 53 years, Harvey Geiger, she raised five children: Paula Geiger, Pamela (Dale) Steen, Eric (Laura) Geiger, Chad (Lori) Geiger and Trevor (Jessie) Geiger. She was blessed with sixteen grandchildren: Chelsea, Charlton, Kara and Alec; Carly, Annica and Chloe; Aidan and Sage; Andrew, Elizabeth, Thomas, Raymond and Christopher; Quinn and Heinrich. Rose Marie was a dedicated farmwife and joint business owner with Harvey. She later progressed through several positions at First National Bank then Signature Bank. She proudly completed her working career as a Mortgage and Loan Officer at North Star Bank. Rose Marie always enjoyed a good polka and polka dance. In her most recent years, she savored traveling with Harvey. They visited family and took several extended vacations with friends and family which were high on her bucket list. Sunrises, and especially moonrises, with Harvey at their lakeshore home, brought Rose Marie great joy.

Sara Ann Murawski of Kinde died Monday December 9, 2019 in Indiana She was born on on May 11, 1989 in Bad Axe, Michigan, the daughter of Walter and Verna (Simmons) Murawski. Sara was a 2008 graduate of North Huron High School. She was a Boy Scout Leader and worked at Boy Scout Camps for eight years. She was also employed at McDonald’s in Bad Axe for three years. Sara was presently working as a deck hand on the Great Lakes freighters and had just finished a work trip of several weeks at the Port of Indiana-Burns-Harbor. She enjoyed four wheeling, whitewater rafting and kayaking.

Dolores (Lerash) Kretz, 86 of Manistee, Michigan passed away peacefully with family by her side Sunday, December 8, 2019 at the Heritage Hills Memory Care facility in Caro, Michigan. Born Dolores Rose Majeski, December 28, 1933 in Kinde, Michigan; the daughter of Felix and Agnes (Rice) Majeski.   Dolores loved God, Mother Mary, the church and her family. She was an avid gardener; enjoyed her gardens, flowers and the birds.  Her passion was playing golf and bridge.  She also loved travelling with her husband Bruce and family.  She offered her time as a volunteer at the Manistee Hospital and was an advocate for the National Right to Life organization.

Zola Beth Roeber, 99, of Pigeon, died Saturday, December 7, 2019 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Zola was born May 8, 1920 in Fairhaven Twp to the late Perry and Elizabeth (Avery) Dutcher. She graduated from Bay Port High School and then received her teaching degree from Central Michigan University. She married Arthur W. Roeber on March 31, 1944 at Pigeon River Mennonite Church; he preceded her in death December 12, 2009. She had a 37 year elementary teaching career that began when she was 19 years old. She taught at Decker School, Winsor School, Michigan Mennonite School, Ridge School and retired from Sebewaing School. It was a joy for her to see her former students. She was an active longtime member of Pigeon River Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was president of the Ladies Sewing Circle for many years where she made countless comforter tops. Her hobbies including gardening, flowers, playing sudoku, crossword puzzles and traveling.

Biography

Thomas Michael Stacer, age 47, of Ruth, MI, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2019, at his home surrounded by family and under hospice care. Thomas was born on January 17, 1972, in Harbor Beach, MI, to Calvin and Judy (Wipping) Stacer. Tom and Michele (Early) were united in marriage on June 21, 2003, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helena. Tom graduated from Harbor Beach High School in 1990. He worked at Booms Construction for 29 years, and although he was the foreman, he believed in a hard day’s work and was the first to arrive at a job site and the last to leave. When he wasn’t building, Tom also enjoyed working on the Stacer family farm. Tom loved life and was an inspiration to all who knew him during his battle with brain cancer. Tom enjoyed helping people, and he regularly donated blood, earning his five-gallon pin. He loved playing league hockey, crop touring, a good meal at places off the beaten path, road trips for ice cream, his weekly Saturday trip to the Sherman Township dump, his dogs, Rufus and Lamont, and cats, Lucky and Buttons. Tom was hardworking, funny, thoughtful, and loyal. He will be forever remembered for his love for his wife, Michele, for his big smile, and the sound of his laughter.

James E. Champagne, 91, of Elkton, died Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Jim was born April 13, 1928 in Pinnebog to the late Clarence and Muriel (Thompson) Champagne. He graduated from Elkton High School in 1946. He married Bessie Lou Thompson on February 16, 1952 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog; she preceded him in death April 1, 2014. In his early career he farmed and worked for Michigan Sugar. He then worked in construction, eventually owning his own excavating service. He drove truck for Huron Excavating retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Elkton Lions and Caseville Eagles, where he enjoyed playing any kind of cards.

James S. Musser, 84, of Shelby Twp, formerly of Caseville, died Thursday, December 5, 2019 in Macomb County. Jim was born March 13, 1935 in Detroit to the late Martin and Laura (Hemmila) Musser. He graduated from Busch High School in Center Line in 1953. He was a United States Veteran of the Army. He married Mary Ann Tranchida on July 12, 1958 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Center Line. James retired after 37 years in the IBEW 58.
