A funeral mass will be at 11:00 am Monday, May 20th at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon with Fr. John Weis presiding. Visitation will be 6 to 9 Saturday and Noon to 8 pm Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville. He will lie in-state one hour prior to mass on Monday in church. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Dolores; children Debra (Michael) Loucks of Charlotte, Richard Selby of Cass City, James Selby of Dallas, Texas, Steven (Ada) Selby of Carrollton, Texas, Constance Strohecker of Sterling Heights, Kathleen (Richard) Rybicki of St. Clair Shores, Chester Kowalski of Metairie, Louisiana, Kenneth (Karen) Kowalski of Lake Orion and Danny (Cheryl) Kowalski of Caseville; 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Schroeder of Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his children Jack Selby, Deborah Kowalski, and infant Susan Selby and the mother of his children Lois Selby.
Dr. William Selby, 88, of Pigeon, died suddenly Thursday, May 16, 2013 at his home with his family beside him. William was born June 2, 1924 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late William and Doris (Speir) Selby. He graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1942 and then served in the US Army during World War II. He graduated from the Northern Illinois College of Optometry. In 1954 he moved to Cass City and opened his own optometry practice, retiring in 1986. After retirement he moved to his cottage on Wild Fowl Bay between Caseville and Bay Port. He was a member of the Caseville American Legion, Caseville Eagles, St. Francis Borgia, and the Cass City Lions Club. He enjoyed bowling, friends and spending time with his family.
