Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am, Thursday, April 26 at St. John Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Wednesday from 1:30-9:00 pm. There will be a joint rosary Wednesday at 7:00 pm by the St. John Christian Mothers and the St. Isidore Rosary Sodality. Memorials have been requested to Family Discretionary Fund. Ruth is survived by one son, David and his wife, Anna of Bay City; four daughters, Ruth (Leo) Oberski of Clio, Beverly (Jerome “Whiteyâ€) Pawlosky of Ubly, Becky Olshove of Bad Axe, Karen Smalley of Ubly; 18 grandchildren;17 great grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine Mullen of FL. She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Olshove; four brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Agnes R. “Ruthie†Olshove, 91 of Ubly, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on March 15, 1927 in Tyre to the late Simon and Susie (Pollum) Rutkowski. She married Tony P. Olshove on September 8, 1945 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on October 9, 1990. Ruthie was a graduate of a country school and received her G.E.D. in 1978 from Bad Axe High School. In her younger years she worked in the Detroit area at a Kresge store. She returned to Ubly to work at various companies in the area. Ruthie co-owned the City Service Gas station in Ubly for five years with her husband. They also owned and operated the Olshove Upholstery Company for many years. Ruthie was a trustee for the Village of Ubly for 20 years and organized many Mayor Exchange days. She organized the Girls Softball League and coached the Sports Depot team. She participated in all of the Alabama Jubilee. Ruthie organized the EMT and Bingham Township Ambulance Service. She was the first female supervisor of Hamill Seat Belt Company. Ruthie was a charter member of both the Ubly Historical Society and the Ubly Lioness Club. She served as the President of the Thumb Veteran’s Organization #1 Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She hosted many foreign exchange students over the years. Ruthie was a past Grand Marshall for the Ubly Homecoming parade and served as secretary for many years on the Homecoming committee. Ruthie was a parishioner of St. John Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Parish of Ubly and was a member of the St. John Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the St. Isidore Rosary Sodality of Parisville.
