Biography

Aleta Jane (Miller) Bauer, 94, of Elkton, Michigan passed away on January 9, 2022 at Scheurer Hospital, Pigeon surrounded by her immediate family. Aleta was born 16 March 1927 Winsor Twp, daughter of the late Edward H. Miller and M Sylvia (Wurtz) Miller. Aleta attended Winsor County School through the eighth grade and then attended Pigeon High School where she graduated in 1944. Upon graduation she worked at the Box Factory in Pigeon nailing boxes together. She then went to Wallace and Morley Company in Elkton where she worked as a bookkeeper and met her future husband Robert Bauer. They were engaged in the summer of 1944 and married May 24, 1947 at Salem Evangelical Church in Pigeon. They remained active lifelong members of what is now called Salem United Methodist Church. She and Robert lived at 2666 N. Grassmere Road near Elkton all their married life and raised their three children there. In addition to being a homemaker and mother Aleta joined her husband Robert working on the farm and in the egg factory. She was also employed at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon as an Accredited Records Technician serving as Medical Records Department Head. Aleta’s hobbies included painting, reading, crocheting, embroidering, gardening, etching, Swedish weaving and traveling. She enjoyed the sunshine and life in Arizona in the winter. Her family was her greatest joy. She and Robert retired from farming in 1972 and continued to operate the egg factory until 1986. They purchased an RV and traveled across the U.S. exploring the West and Southwest. In 1997 they purchased a park model home near Phoenix, Arizona where they spent over 20 winters enjoying the sunny southwest, hosting family, and making new friends. In their Elkton home and Arizona home she and her husband always welcomed whomever was brought home as if they were family. Aleta was a compassionate woman who always saw the bright side of things and the good in people. She loved her family dearly and treasured the times spent with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a woman of deep faith and church was important to her. Our world is a little brighter because of her wonderful disposition.
