Services will be held on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Officiating will be Reverend Jay Barsaleau, pastor of the Bad Axe First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Verona Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe on Sunday from 1:00-8:00 p.m. or Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m.
Alton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Inez Gerstenschlager of Bad Axe. One son, Chris (Joann) Gerstenschlager of Bad Axe. One Daughter, Kay (Dave) Varosi of Snover. Three grandchildren; Heidi McLeod of Bad Axe, Joseph (Kim) Gerstenschlager of Colorado, and Laura (Jerry) Michalski of Port Hope. Four great grandchildren; Carlee, Hailee, and Logan McLeod and Katlyn Michalski. Preceded by: his siblings; Freida Hazel, Harold Gerstenschlager, Clara Gerstenschlager, Wilfred Steadman, and Leo Steadman.
Alton Gerstenschlager, age 88 of Bad Axe, passed away on Tuesday at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born on May 28, 1925 in Sigel Township, son of the late Joseph and Matilda (Wenland) Gerstenschlager. Al was a farmer all of his life, raising dairy and beef cattle. He served as a trustee for Verona Township, retiring at the age of 82.
