The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church/OLPH, Pigeon, with Fr. Robert Kelm officiating. Burial will be in Grand Lawn Cemetery, Winsor Township. Memorials may be made to Pigeon District Library, Hospice Advantage, or American Heart Association. Her survivors include six children: Gerald “Jerry” (Sue) Maxwell of Alabama, Connie (Ken) Engelhardt of Owendale, Evelyn (Randy) Fritz of Sebewaing, Dan (Margie) Maxwell of Elkton, Nancy (Dr. Ray) Raythatha of Cass City, and Carl (Phyllis) Maxwell of Pigeon; 15 grandchildren: Jimmy, Rodney, Michelle, Kevin, Brian, Jeff, Kami, Jodie, Joell, Jennifer, Anand, Manisha, Rajen, Heather, and Stephanie; 13 step grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; sister, Delores Lange of Pigeon and Florida; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley; sister, Helen Thick; and brother, Harold LeRoy Thick.

Biography

Barbara J. Maxwell, 82 of Pigeon, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Cass City. Barbara Jean Thick was born in Bay Port on February 24, 1933 to Joseph and Lorena (Wideman) Thick, and attended Pigeon High School. She and Frederick C. Maxwell were married in Bad Axe on January 5, 1950. They had celebrated 57 years of marriage when Fred passed away February 4, 2007. Barbara worked at the Ben Franklin store in Pigeon for many years. She enjoyed quilting, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Pigeon VFW Post 2236 Auxiliary as well as the St. Francis Borgia Altar Society and St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon.
