Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Barb’s life will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 11 am at Good Shepherd Parish-St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Township. Officiating will be Fr. Charlie Hammond and Fr. Todd Arnberg. Burial will be in St. Columbkille Cemetery. Friends may call for visitation on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe from 2 – 8 pm or Saturday at the church from 10 am until the service time at 11 am. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at McLaren Thumb Region ER department and the staff at McLaren Bay Regional Hospital ER and CCU unit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Thumb Industries, St. Columbkille Cemetery or St. Columbkille Religious Education. Barb is survived by her husband of 44 years, Gerald (Jerry) Sweeney of Ubly. Her children – Lisa (Michael) Bucher of Clinton Township, Jeff (Amy) Sweeney of Bad Axe, Christy Sweeney of Ubly and Deanne (Justin) McElhany of Greenville, OH. Four grandchildren – Andrew Bucher, Brayden, Trent and Morgan Sweeney. Three brothers – Ken (Lauretta) Roberts of Minden City, Doug (DeDe) Roberts of Elburn, IL and Patrick (Elizabeth) Roberts of Rochester Hills, MI. Three sisters – Delores (Rich) Kramer of Ruth, Janice (Chris) Bolton of Shelby Township and Mary Roberts of Ubly. Sister-in-law – Brenda Roberts of Phoenix, Arizona. Brother-in-laws – Ronald Sweeney of Bad Axe, Bernard (Mary) Sweeney of Harbor Beach, Dean (special friend Susan Mardlin) Sweeney of Ubly. Sister-in-laws – Theresa (Tom) Polega of Kinde and Donna Nunamann of Middleburg, NY. Special friends of the family – Karen and Kevin Romzek and their daughters Sarah and Laura. Many nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Florence (Artman) Roberts Siblings – Carol Volmering, Daniel Roberts and Dale Roberts. Mother and father-in-law – James B. and Virginia Sweeney. Brother-in-law – Ray Volmering. Sister-in-law – Joanne Sweeney. Great nephew – Samuel Sweeney.

Biography

Barbara “Barb” J. Sweeney, age 65, of Ubly, peacefully passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by her family, following a very brief illness on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at McLaren Bay Regional Hospital in Bay City. Barb was born on October 16, 1953 in Deckerville, daughter of the late Bernard and Florence (Artman) Roberts. She graduated from Ubly High School in 1971 and worked for several years at the Huron County Medical Care Facility until her retirement. Barb enjoyed playing games, doing puzzles and Thursday afternoon get togethers and games with local friends. She enjoyed getting together with her family several times each year and babysitting her grandchildren.
