Funeral Information

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John Chrysostom Church, Forestville, on Friday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Robert Meissner officiating. Committal will follow immediately after the Mass at St. John Chrysostom Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, on Thursday, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the Christian Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also take place at the church on Friday after 10 a.m. Bernice’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Stonegate Village Assisted Living in Sandusky for their loving and compassionate care of Bernice since she took up residence there in April 2011, to Heartland Hospice for their tender and sensitive ministry, and also to Fr. Charlie Hammond for his devoted pastoral care.

Bernice is survived by five children: Fr. Robert Meissner (Bay City), James (Dorothy) Meissner (Minden City), Marjorie (Thomas) Anderlonis (Aston PA), Donald (Susan) Meissner (Marlette), and Deborah Meissner (Flint). She leaves behind ten grandchildren: Sherri Boyd (Howell), Kristi (Paul) Kline (Midland), Jennifer (Scott) Long (Palms), Michelle (Dennis) Krynicki (Coopersville); Amy (Walter) Kempczynski (Brookhaven PA), Karie (Kevin) Steinmetz (Aston PA), Timothy (Mary Catherine) Anderlonis (Arlington VA); Andrea (Todd) Palmer (Sandusky), Dr. Shannon (Jay) MacLean (Wichita Falls TX), Erica (Andrew) Boyan (Mason); 19 great-grandchildren; her sisters Josephine Peterson and Francis Mausolf; her special cousin Connie Weber; sisters-in-law Betty Meissner, Mildred Mette, Alice Sweeso, and Bertha (Richard) McCoy; and many loving nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Bernice was preceded in death by her sister Mary Siemen, her brothers Vincent and Br. Joseph, SJ; her sisters-in-law Geraldine Meissner and Florinda Adams; her brothers-in-law Roy Peterson, Herbert Siemen, and Earl Mausolf; Norman Sweeso, Charles Adams I, Herman Meissner, Walter Meissner, and Robert Mette.

Biography

Bernice Benedicta LaMielle Meissner, age 87, of Minden City went home to God on Sunday, Feb. 17. She was born in Harbor Beach on October 25, 1925, to Peter and Rose (Schulte) LaMielle, the fifth of six children and the youngest daughter. She graduated as valedictorian from Our Lady of Lake Huron High School in 1943. On May 6, 1944, she married the love of her life, Clarence Meissner, at OLLH Church. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2005. They farmed together on Schock Road (Delaware Township, Sanilac County) all their married life and spent twenty-five happy winters in Lake Village, Nokomis FL.
