Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday, October 24, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Rodney Schwab, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton. Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 8 PM Thursday, and at the church after 12 noon Friday. Surviving are his parents, Donald and Elaine Schafer of Elkton; his brother, Donald Jr. (Patty) Schafer of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Debora (Dave) Jaworski of Bad Axe, Dianne Schafer of Elkton and Dawn Schafer of Elkton and her finance’, Jeff Schmidt; aunts and uncles, Robert (Shelia) Schafer, Shirley Hill; nieces and nephews, Kelly (Ryan) Errer, Chad (Kelly) Jaworski, Adam Jaworski, Samantha (Matthew) Jezierski, Garrett Schafer(his friend, Abby Jones), Grant, Alex and Noah Schafer, Janelle, Alexia, Garrett and Mason Schmidt and cousins, Ken and Kim Hill, Andrea and Billy Murawski and their children, Katelyn, Molly, Mitchell, Matthew and Ellen.
David P. Schafer, age 53 of Bad Axe received his wings, Monday October 20, as he was called home by our Lord. He was born September 3, 1961, in Bad Axe to Donald and Elaine (Hill) Schafer, grew up in Elkton and was a 1980 graduate of Laker High School. David worked many years at Axly Tool, Bad Axe. He then became a CENA and worked at the Huron County Medical Care Facility for a time, returning to the tool and die trade this time at Huron Tool, Bad Axe, until retiring in December of 2011 for health reasons. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkton. David loved spending time with his family, watching sports, always rooting for his favorite Michigan teams, the Lions, Tigers and U of M Wolverines. David was a gentle soul, always putting himself second to those he loved most. The love in his heart for his parents, family and friends went beyond understanding.
