Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday at the Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. Craig Pillow, pastor of the will officiate with burial in Colfax Twp. Cemetery, Bad Axe. Friends may call from 2 to 9 PM Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton and at the church after 10 AM Saturday. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to all the medical staff, who have taken care of Wayne over the past several years, especially the staff at Heartland Hospice and our special Nurse Aide, Dee. Memorials may be given to Heartland Hospice or the Elkton United Methodist Church and words of condolence may be shared at www.cfcelkton.com.
Surviving are his wife, Lorraine; his children, Jan (Brent) Wessels, Eric (Beckie), Ked (Brenda) and Lex(Lisa) all of Bad Axe; eight grandchildren, Richelle (Brad) Roth, Krista (Bill) Comai, Cody, Taryn, Heidi, Kyle, Brennan and Galen; two great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Luca; sister-in-law, Verneta McNeil of Dunnelion, FL; brother-in-law, Maurice Lindell of Port Townsend, WA; a niece and a nephew; two step children, Charles (Penny) Kurzer of Metamora and Cheryl (Dan) Abbe of Elkton and several step grand and great grandchildren.
Donald “Wayne” Miller age 84, lifelong Colfax Twp. farmer died Tuesday afternoon, April 8, while under hospice care. He was born June 11, 1929 in Bad Axe to the late Daniel and Greta (Armstrong) Miller. Wayne grew up a farm and was a 1947 graduate of Elkton High School. In 1956, he married Virginia G. McNeil at the First Baptist Church of Bad Axe. Wayne and Virginia raised their family in Colfax Twp and continued the farming tradition until retiring in 1995, turning the operation over to his sons. He and his father spent many years custom combining for area farmers from 1949, with one of the first self-propelled combines in the area, until the early 1980’s with more modern equipment. Virginia preceded him in death June 21, 2004. Then in March of 2006, he married Lorraine (Botwright) Kurzer at the Elkton United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Aim High Farm Bureau Group, as well as serving many years in board seats for the Elkton Cooperative Elevator, Bluewater Youth for Christ, First Baptist Church of Bad Axe, Elkton United Methodist Church and was an active volunteer many years for the Elkton Food Pantry. Wayne had a love for music and enjoyed attending many concerts. He also enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to have visited all but two states. Much of his retirement years were spent keeping up with his family on the farm, as well as creating and repairing in his woodshop.
