Funeral Information

Funeral service for Elwood will be 11 am on Saturday, May 21st at the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Jerry Sutton. Visitation is from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 19th; and 2 to 8 pm on Friday, May 20th at the MacAlpine Gage Chapel in Kinde. There will also be visitation at the church on Saturday, May 21st from 10 am until time of service. Burial will be at New River Cemetery in Port Austin. The family would like to thank Carrie Lewis from Heartland Hospice for the extraordinary care. Memorials may be offered to Heartland Hospice or to the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Michelle Kirkpatrick of Dwight Township; daughters: Lisa (Craig) Iden of Kinde and Rebecca Waling of Texas; sons: Dean (Maureen) Kirkpatrick, Ron (Andrea) Kirkpatrick, both from Kinde and Brad (Amy) Kirkpatrick of Traverse City; granddaughters: Corey, Casey, Brooke, and Natalie; grandsons: Randy, Dallas, Sean, Eric, Derek, Nathan, Colin and Ryan; and a special cousin, Beverly (Arnott) McFarland from Bay City. He was preceded in death by his cousin, Leslie Arnott.

Biography

Elwood C. Kirkpatrick, 79, of Dwight Township, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2016 at his home under Heartland Hospice care. He was born in Dwight Township on January 30, 1937 to the late Ross A. and Eula (Arnott) Kirkpatrick. Elwood was in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime dairy farmer. He enjoyed taking walks near the water and was an avid Tiger fan. He was a member of the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church. Elwood was the President of Michigan Milk for 27 years (1981 – 2007); he was an officer in the D.M.I., National Milk Producers Association, National Dairy Promotional Organization, on the State Fair Board, School Board for North Huron Schools for eight years, chairman on the U.S. Dairy Export Council, and on the President Advisory Council
