Family of the Deceased

Erich is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna Wessels of Bad Axe. One son – Erich (Nancy) Wessels of Cedar Falls, Iowa. One daughter – Laura Wessels and her fiancé Matt Sandburn of Auburn, MI. Three grandchildren – Monica Wessels of Columbia, MO, Nick and Lauren Wessels of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Two sisters – Jean Schember of Sandusky, MI. and Sharon Elliott of Warren, MI. Two sisters-in-law – Carol Wessels of Harbor Beach and Patricia Bolen of Naperville, IL. Many nieces and nephews. Erich was preceded in death by: Parents – George and Tillie Wessels. Sisters – Pat Miller, Wanda Rysberg and Kathryn Brinker. Brother – George Wessels. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Richard Lockard and the staff at Courtney Manor for the wonderful care Erich received as well as to Andrea Connors for being a devoted friend.

Biography

Erich Wessels, age 75, of Bad Axe, passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Courtney Manor Nursing Facility in Bad Axe. Erich was born February 8, 1943 in Bad Axe, son of the late George and Tillie (Brade) Wessels. He grew up on a farm in Lincoln Township and graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1960. He joined the Coast Guard in 1962. He met his wife Donna (Davenport) in Chicago and they were married on October 16, 1965. After moving back to Michigan, Erich went to work for Detroit Edison as a lineman. After retiring in 2001, he went to work at Northstar Bank as a courier for the next ten years. Erich loved to hunt and made many trips to the Upper Peninsula. He was a past president of the Ubly Fox Hunters.
