Funeral service for Erwin will be 2 pm on Wednesday, June 1st at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe with Rev. Kenneth Lueke officiating. Burial will be at Colfax Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 – 9 pm on Tuesday, May 31st at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe and noon to 2 pm on Wednesday, June 1st at the church. Erwin is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lori; two sons: Doug (Beth) Eggert of Brownstown, Michigan and Scott Eggert (and special friend, Jessica Strout) of Norwich, Connecticut; one step-son, Joe (Natalie) Liss of Niles, Michigan; two daughters: Bonnie Lembas of Baltimore and Brenda (Gary) Jandereski of Bad Axe; one step daughter, Melissa (Wade) Roberts of Houghton Lake; 11 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers: Arnold Eggert of Port Hope, Merl (Patsy) Eggert of Port Hope and Robert (Mary Ann) Eggert of Caro; sister in law, Mary Wirgau of Bad Axe. He was preceded in death by his sister, Alma Engel; brother, Wilbur Eggert; sisters in law, Betty Eggert and Bernice Eggert; brothers in law, Walton Engel and Eugene Wirgau; and two grandsons.
Erwin Carl Eggert, 87, of Bad Axe, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 28, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 9, 1929 to the late Theodore and Helene (Schultz) Eggert of Port Hope, Michigan. On September 8, 1956, he married Luella Smith. On June 5, 1982, he married Lori Kretchman Liss. Erwin attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Port Hope. He loved to hunt and fish. He worked the family farm with his dad for a number of years. He trimmed trees for Detroit Edison. He also worked for Liberty Special Tool Company and Harbor Beach Wire. Erwin was a foster grandparent for a few years where he worked with special needs children. He loved what he did. Erwin also did carpenter work for years and enjoyed gardening. Most of all, he enjoyed his grandchildren. Erwin is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He also ushered at St. Peter’s in Kinde and at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Hope.
