Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sisters, Charlene Bensinger and Donna Noble, both of Bad Axe, and many nieces, nephews, and friends, including Ruth Ann Etzler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Freeman and Bertha Motz; sisters, infant Evelyn Jean Motz and Shirley Ann Motz; brothers, Edward Bruce, George Henry, Merdith Dale, and Elton Harold; aunts, Beulah Pierce, Reva Pauline Peterson, and Garnet Dean; and uncle, Homer Motz.

Biography

Esther Pauline Motz, 96 of Bad Axe, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. Esther was born at her grandparents’ home in Oliver Township on September 21, 1918 and was the daughter of Freeman Josiah and Bertha Pauline (Sparschu) Motz. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1935. Esther worked as a bookkeeper and tax preparer throughout her lifetime. She worked for Thumb Bottling Company and Fairmont Foods from age 17 through 1953, and was the Bad Axe City Treasurer from 1978 until her retirement in October 1994. She also had been a member of the Bad Axe Business & Professional Women. Esther was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon, as well as the United Methodist Women.
