Funeral services and military honors will be conducted 11 AM Monday, February 23, at Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon. Rev. Timothy Loehrke, pastor will officiate. Fred will be laid to rest with his wife in Caseville Twp. Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 1 PM to 6 PM Sunday February 22, and at the church from 10 AM until the time of the service. Memorials may be directed to Country Gardens or Cross Lutheran Parsonage Building Fund. Words of condolence may be shared at www.cfcelkton.com. The family extends their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at Country Gardens, Dr. Laurey R. Hanselman, DO, Schuerer Health Network, and Hospice Advantage providing Fred the many years of care and especially the compassionate care during his final days.
Surviving are six children, Bradd (Joan) Chisholm of Greenbush, MI, Susan (Neil) Volant of Westwood, NJ, Lori Remick, of Social Circle, GA, Amy Erickson of Cumming, GA, Bryan (MaryJo) Chisholm, of Rockford, MI, and Dan (Shannon) Chisholm of Social Circle, GA; thirteen grandchildren; Amanda (Mike) Cress, Evan (Elizabeth) Chisholm, Jason (Yvonne) Noggle, Mia Volant, Ali Volant, Amy Remick, Haley Erickson, Hannah Erickson, Eric Chisholm, Alexis Chisholm, Andrew Chisholm, Ashley (Jordon) Flores, Eric Standridge; three great grandchildren Ryan Noggle, Olive Flores and Emalia Chisholm and his sister, Joyce Mosher of Owendale; brother in laws, Robert (Joyce) Smith, Sidney (Kay) Smith; sisters–in–law, Margaret Ann Chisholm and Mary Smith.
Fred J Chisholm age 87, of Pigeon, MI, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home at Country Gardens, was called to his heavenly home early Tuesday morning, February17. He is now re-united with his wife, Lois; brothers Robert and Donald Chisholm; sisters Geraldine Hendricks and Grace Chisholm. He was born May 11, 1927, at the home of his parents, the late Franz and Doris (Dhyse) Chisholm in Brookfield Twp. near Owendale, MI. Fred served in the US Army during the Korean War returning home in 1952. On March 13, 1953, he was united in marriage to Lois L Smith at Hayes Methodist Church. He and Lois, the love of his life were married 60 years prior to her passing. They made their home in Pigeon where they raised their family. In their later years, they remained in Pigeon and made their home in Country Gardens. Fred was employed at the C. F. Sturm Chevrolet dealership, Pigeon for 13 years then served as a mechanic with UPS 30 years retiring in 1989. He was a long time member of Cross Lutheran Church and a life member of the Pigeon VFW. In his spare time, Fred enjoyed working on and repairing small engines.
