A funeral mass will be at 11:00 Friday, September 4th at St. Roch-OLPH Catholic Church in Caseville with Fr. Robert Pare presiding. Visitation will be 2-8 Thursday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville and one hour prior to mass in church. Memorials may be directed to the family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Kathleen; son Daniel of Caseville and daughter Cathy (Dennis) Schuette of Elkton; grandchildren Meaghan, Maureen and Tyler Fortsch and Jared Schuette; and cousins Lillian and Bruce Lockwood of Bay City and Dean Lockwood of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his sister Lorraine Walkowiak.

Biography

Frederick J. Fortsch, 87, of Caseville, died Saturday, August 29, 2015 at his home under hospice care. Fred was born February 12, 1928 in Bay City to the late Freidric and Johanna (Ulherr) Fortsch. He graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1945. He served in the US Army from 1946-1947 in Japan. He attended Bay City Junior College and ITI in Chicago. On May 7, 1955 he married Kathleen Foley at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bay City. Fred worked in Bay City before moving to Caseville in 1963 for a job. He worked at Caseville Lumber and Pigeon Lumber as an architectural draftsman, designing countless homes in the area. He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, Bay City Civitans, Caseville Eagles, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and a charter member of the Caseville Optimist. He served on both the Caseville and Huron ISD Board of Education for over 20 years.
