The funeral for Fred will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Forestville. Pastor Henry Hales will officiate. His final resting lace will be the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Smigielski Funeral Home in Minden on Tuesday from 3:00-7:00 pm and on Wednesday from 10:00-10:45 am at Trinity Lutheran Church only. Fred is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jean; 5 children, JoAnn (Steven) Kramer of Deckerville, Dwight (Cindy) Volz of North Branch, Gerry (Linda) Volz of Fairview, Chuck (Linda) Volz of Comins, Melvin (Tracy) Volz of Reese; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; one brother, Dale (Esther) Volz, one sister-in-law, Rachel Klaus; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Volz; brother and sister in-law, Eleanor Dick) Keber; brother in-law Glenn Klaus; and one infant grandson.

Biography

Mr. Frederick Lewis Volz, 93 of Ubly, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 21, 1925 to the late Herbert and Mary (Underhill) Volz and lived in the Minden City area all his life. He married Jean Dorothy Klaus on September 7, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Forestville. After graduating from Minden City High School, Fred worked as a farmer with his family until his retirement in 1988. He then spent time traveling with his wife to all areas of the country. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, golfing and camping with his family. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
