The funeral services for Henry will be1:00 pm Saturday, June 27 at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, Pastor Robert Srock will officiate. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Howell. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Friday from 5:00-8:00 pm and Saturday form 11:00 am until the service at 1:00 pm. Henry is survived by his wife, Ann Johnson Thompson of Ubly; two sons, Henry and his wife, Debra of Connecticut, Donald of California; one daughter, Alyse Strahm of Saginaw; one daughter-in-law, Carrie Thompson of Connecticut; three grandchildren, Josh (Kristy) Strahm, Matthew (Ashley) Boonstra, Kimberly Thompson; four great grandchildren, Liam Thompson, Jacob and Evelyn Strahm, Lola Boonstra; his special cat, Tuxedo Tom. He was preceded in death by one son John, one daughter, Alynn Hachey, an infant brother and one granddaughter, Patsy Ann Robinette.

Biography

He was born on November 21, 1925 in Detroit to the late Oscar and Karen (Laursen) Thompson. He married Ann Grabruck Johnson on February 12, 1999 in Indiana. Henry was a graduate of Cooley High School. He joined the Merchant Marines as a Seaman 2nd Class after graduating from the US Maritime Service Facility in Sheepshead Bay, New York. He then became a member of the US Coast Guard, serving as a Navy Seal. He sailed the Great Lakes and oceans, traveling to many states and countries including Hawaii, Alaska, Asia, Russia, Europe, Nepal, Greece, Panama, France, Australia, New Zealand and the Mediterranean. Henry was a Detective Sergeant for the Detroit Police Department and retired after 27 years of service. He proudly walked the Mackinaw Bridge more than fifteen times alone and with his wife.
