Visitation at Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road, Utica, 4 blocks east of Van Dyke on Thursday, 3:00-9:00 pm with a scripture service at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday at 9:30 am at St. Paul of Tarsus Church, 41300 Romeo Plank Rd, Clinton Twp. with visitation at church from 9:00-9:30 am. Rev. Ron Essman will officiate. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Smigielski Funeral Homes, Ubly and Minden City, MI.

Herman was a Loving Husband to his beloved wife of 52 years, Ilene; Dearest Father to Jeffrey (Bernarda) and Kimberly; Dzia Dzia of Jeffrey John Jr.; Brother of John B. Smigielski; Brother-in-law of Patricia (Lynn) Albee, Charles (Gail, MD) Gwizdala, MD, Maryann Gwizdala, Anna Kemp, Lillian; many nieces and nephews; loyal canine companion, Pepe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Irene Smigielski, his in-laws, Aloysius and Catherine Gwizdala, brothers-in-law, James, Robert and Jerry Gwizdala and Edward Borninski, DDS.

Biography

Herman “The German” Smigielski, 76 of Clinton Township and formerly of Poletown, owner of Pointe Carpentry Service, died Monday, October 21, 2013 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township. Herman was born on December 17, 1936 in Highland Park to the late Herman and Irene (Chrzanowski) Smigielski. He married Ilene Gwizdala on May 30, 1961. Herman was a US Army veteran, serving as military police. He enjoyed being a carpenter and building things for others. He helped his grandson Jeffrey build many different things in his garage. He was a parishioner at St. Paul Tarsus Church in Clinton Township.
