Biography

James H. “Jim” Lewis, age 87, of Bad Axe, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the McCarthy House/Hope Health Hospice on Sandwich, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He was born on May 10. 1927 in Bad Axe, son of the late George and Alta Mae (Jackson) Lewis. Jim was a volunteer at Huron County Medical Care Facility for many years. He love automobiles (Fords!), hunting, fishing, traveling, concerts, and antique car shows. This summer and last fall he attended the Barnstable Senior Center and loved the daily exercise, people, and activities. He loved to see children laughing and playing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Jim started working as a mechanic in 8th grade at Flannery’s until he was drafted into the Navy in 1946 and also upon his return. He worked for Talaski/Ordus Ford from 1950-1967 as head mechanic and manager. He worked for the Huron County Road Commission (as did his father) from 1967-1997, and was proud of his working until the age of 70. Thank-yous go out to the many people who contributed to Dad’s support network: neighbors, friends, and family that Dad enjoyed in Bad Axe, MI. Also the staff at McDonald’s Food & Family Center staff: and the McCarthy House staff who made Dad happy and comfortable while on Cape Cod.
