Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bad Axe with Fr. Robert Howe officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 2-5:00 p.m. and 7-9:00 p.m. with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. and Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Ubly. Memorials may be offered to the Bad Axe Lions Club or Sacred Heart Food Pantry. MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe is handling the arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Rita Martin of Bad Axe; a son, John (Sandra) Martin of Filion; a daughter, Mary Martin and special friend, Scott Bailey of Clarkston; four grandchildren, Claire and Collin Martin and Carter and Mason Kochanski; as well as many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Martin
John T. Martin, 74, of Bad Axe passed away Monday, October 21, 2013, at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, following a long illness. He was born November 27, 1938, in Bad Axe to the late Walter and Isabel V. (MacEachin) Martin. John and Rita Trudell were united in marriage on August 14, 1965 at the Holy Family Parish, in Sparta, MI. He was in the graduating Class of 1956 at the Ubly High School and received his bachelor’s degree at Michigan State University in accounting in 1960. He served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962. He worked for the Huron County Road Commission for 20 years as their Accountant, Finance Director and Manager. He was also employed for 10 years as the Finance Director and Secretary to the Board of the St. Clair Road Commission. John also served as the Auditor for the State Highway Dept. in Lansing for 9 years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bad Axe, and he was a former caddie and longtime member of Verona Hills Golf Club. He was a member of the Bad Axe Lions Club and past president. He was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellow Award by the Lions Club International Foundation for his dedication to humanitarian service. John was also a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club; Port Huron Chapter, and served as former president. John loved civic involvement, was an avid reader, enjoyed golf and socializing with friends and family.
