Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am Wednesday, July 3 at Holy Apostle Parish, Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Ruth. Rev. Peter Nwokoye, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Smigielski Funeral Home on Cass Ave in Minden City on Tuesday from 2:00-9:00 pm and Wednesday from 9:00-10:00 am. There will be a parish vigil service Tuesday evening at 7 pm at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund or United Hospice Service. (Sarah) McCoy of Chicago, Mary Louise (Paul) Buckham of Alexandria, LA, Alan G. (Esther) McCoy of Oak Park, Paul L. (Mary Anne) McCoy Bloomfield Hills, Timothy M. McCoy and Tracy LaHair of Kinde, Terri (Arthur) Trese of Athens, Ohio, Mark J. (Elaine) McCoy of Loxahatchee, Fla., Lauri (Randy) Halifax of Minden City; 39 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; one sister, Mary (Ed) Swigert of Centerline; two brothers, Dick (Bert) McCoy of Redford, Frank (Lorraine) McCoy of Marlette. He was preceded by an infant daughter, Melissa; three sisters, Helen Bennett, Olive Higgins and Alma Kosal; seven brothers, William, Patrick, John, James, Robert and Thomas McCoy and an infant brother.
Mr. Joseph L. McCoy, 92, of Minden City, passed away Sunday morning, June 30, 2013 surrounded by his family at his home while under hospice care. He was born on December 21, 1920 in Minden City to the late Dr. John P. McCoy and Alma (Brodbeck) McCoy. He married Gloria M. Schock on December 21, 1940 at St. Mary Cathedral in Saginaw. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2013. Joe was a lifelong resident of Minden City. He was a 1939 graduate of Deckerville High School. As a young man, Joe purchased a bee business from Garnett Puett in 1946 and ran it successfully for many years as McCoy Honey. Over the years, Joe worked at the Sanilac County Courthouse as a court clerk and Public Guardian. He sold real estate for Century 21. Joe served as Minden Township Clerk and Supervisor. He was also an active volunteer fireman for the Minden City Fire Department. Joe was a parishioner at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church where he was a member of the Usher’s Club. Joe enjoyed gardening, keeping his lawn looking its best, flowers and birds. In his later years, Joe never missed Lawrence Welk and listening to the Sunday Polka Party on the radio. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family. Joe will be sadly missed by all who loved and cared for him.
