Services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, April 19, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton. Rev. Reggie Courliss, pastor of Elkton Missionary Church will officiate with burial in Grandlawn Cemetery, Pigeon. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elkton Missionary Church and words of condolence may be shared at www.cfcelkton.com.
Surviving her are her nephews, Larry Young of Lansing and Dale (Cindy) Young of Sparta, along with nieces, Debra (John) Nixon of Lansing and Sue (David) Wood of Beavercreek, Ohio. Also surviving her are 13 great nephews and nieces as well as 11 great-great nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, LaVerda was predeceased by her brother Willard Young, his wife Uleta, and a great-great nephew.
LaVerda M. Young, 96 lifelong resident of Elkton, died Sunday, April 13, in Haslett, Michigan. She was born April 16, 1918 at the home of her parents, the late Harry and Susan (Steinman) Young in Oliver Township, Huron County, Michigan. She attended the Flowing Well School and graduated from Elkton High School in 1936. LaVerda worked at the Elkton Post Office for a short period of time and retired from the Elkton Medical Clinic after 32 years of service. She was a long time member of the Elkton Missionary Church, the Women’s Missionary Society and Elkton Hobby Club. LaVerda enjoyed reading, scrap booking, writing letters, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.
