The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church, with Rev. Scot Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Michigan Avenue Church, the Gideons, or Heartland Hospice. Family of the Deceased

In addition to his wife, Edith, Leon is survived by three children, Ronald (Sara) of Palmer Lake, Colorado; Evelyn (John) Weier of Freeman, South Dakota; and Roger (Kristina) of Caseville; eight grandchildren: Mollie, Aaron, Marshall, Kyle, Katie, Nathan, Emily, and Rachel; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Elaine (Duane) Ropp of Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Raymond, and a sister, Pauline Swartzendruber, preceded him in death.

Biography

Leon W. Swartzendruber, age 84, passed away at his home in Pigeon on Sunday, November 4, 2012. He was born August 31, 1928, in Pigeon, son of the late David and Ellen (Weidman) Swartzendruber, and graduated from Turner Country School. On May 20, 1950 he was united in marriage to Edith Ruby in Pigeon. Leon retired from the Cooperative Elevator in 1990 after working there more than 40 years. Following his retirement, he stayed active enjoying his family, gardening, and driving truck for the Cooperative Elevator and for several farmer friends. He also helped at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home for many years. He was a faithful, active member of Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church in Pigeon, where he had formerly served as trustee and treasurer.
