Funeral mass for Melvin will be Friday, January 30, 2015 at 1 pm at the Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, of the Holy Name of Mary Parish, with Fr. William Spencer officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation for Melvin will be Thursday, from 3-8pm at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Visitation on Friday will be at the church beginning at 12pm until time of services at 1 pm. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will take place Thursday at 7pm at the funeral home, followed by a Parish Vigil Service, at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Memories can be shared at www.RamseyFH.com
He is survived by his children: Emily Balk of Clare, Thomas Balk of Waco, TX, and Melanie Balk of Commerce Township, his father Melvin Balk of Harbor Beach, and siblings: Crystal Schipinski and her husband Daniel of Cass City, Martin Balk and his wife Deanna of Montana, Garry Balk and his wife Tammy of Romeo, Judith Balk of Minnesota, Cynthia Nowiski of Tennessee, Dianne Mazure and her husband Michael of Jenison, Paul Balk, Patricia Grifka and her husband Scott of Ubly, John Balk and his wife Cindy of Grand Rapids, and Matthew Balk of Blanca, FL. He was preceded in death by his mother Olive Balk and his brother Richard Scott Balk.
MELVIN L. BALK, JR., age 64 of Harbor Beach, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at McLaren Hospital Port Huron. He was born on May 8, 1950 to Melvin Balk and the late Olive (Fournier) Balk. Melvin served in the US Army during Vietnam, from 1968-1971. He was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Bible Study, and the American Legion Post 197. Melvin was a musician who enjoyed playing the guitar.
