Margaret Ann (Richmond) Schwalm passed away Friday, March 15, 2013 at Lynwood Manor Nursing Home in Adrian, where she had been a resident since October, 2010. Margaret Ann was born February 8, 1929 to Royal and Evelyn (Schember) Richmond. They and two younger siblings, Barbara and James, preceded her in death. Margaret Ann married Basil J. Schwalm in Pigeon on August 30, 1951, and they were married almost 30 years until his death in 1981. Being a child of the depression, Margaret Ann began working at age 11. She had many odd jobs that kept her busy throughout her childhood and teenage years. During her married life, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, home canning and attending her children's school activities. Margaret Ann's talent for crocheting was truly a gift. She loved gifting family and friends with crocheted afghans, doilies, dolls, toys, and other items. Her homemade fudge chocolate sheet cake and her scalloped potatoes are still talked about in the family as being of the world's best. Margaret Ann was also a bookworm-a passion which she passed on to her three children. After Basil's death, Margaret Ann worked in the home health care field until retiring in 1993. She enjoyed her retirement attending grandchildren's activities, vacationing and watching game shows. One special vacation was when she, daughter Janice, son-in-law Rod, five dogs and a motor home traveled to Copper Harbor. She said it was a vacation she would always remember, especially the motor home on the narrow roads! In 2007 she moved to Weston and lived with daughter Janice and son-in-law Rodney and their pack of dogs. The dogs held a special place in Margaret Ann's heart.
