Biography

Marian “Mary” (Maurer) Holdwick, 63, of Harbor Beach, passed into eternity peacefully during her sleep on Wednesday September 20, 2017 in her home. Mary was born to the late John and Helen (Weltin) Maurer of Smith’s Corners on June 29, 1954 in Bad Axe, MI. She attended St. Mary’s School in Parisville, and was a graduate of Ubly Community Schools, Class of 1972. Mary and Gene Holdwick were married on December 6, 1985 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Parisville. Together they owned and operated Holdwick Metalworking in Bad Axe for over 25 years, having recently retired in 2015. They also owned and operated Holdwick Dust Control for many years. Prior to married life, Mary worked as a dental assistant and at the Booms Silo Company. Mary loved serving others, and could often be found doing the unglamorous yet necessary jobs. She sought to avoid the limelight whenever possible, and was happiest when her projects went smoothly after careful planning. Her family was central to her life, and she could always be found tirelessly working on various projects for them. She loved sharing her home and cooking for guests, and entertained often. She cared very deeply for her family and friends, and was diligent about sending handmade cards on special events. She was affectionately known as “Mama Holdwick” to the many young people that crossed her path. She was an avid scrapbooker and card maker, and had organized the scrapbooking group at the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church for many years, an event in which she took great pride.
