Funeral Information

Funeral Mass for Marvin will be Monday, January 23, 2017 at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church of the Holy Name of Mary Parish, with Fr. Don Eppenbrock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation on Sunday will be from 2-8pm at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Visitation on Monday will be at the church beginning at 10 am until time of services at 11:30 am. A Parish Vigil Service will be Sunday at 7 pm at the funeral home. Marvin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Phyllis Kociba of Harbor Beach, his children: Kathy Kleinknecht and her husband Steve of Shelby Township, Dennis Kociba of Harbor Beach, David Kociba and his wife Kim of Harbor Beach, Mary Aymen and her husband Ric of Port Austin, Scott Kociba and his wife Jill of Clarkston, and Lori Booms and her husband Ryan of Bad Axe, 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, son-in-law Aaron Wood of Farmington Hills, siblings: Richard (Dorothy) Kociba of Auburn, Gary (Betty) Kociba of Lewis Center, OH, Ronald (Linda) Kociba of Harbor Beach, Jeanette (Paul) Ginther of Harbor Beach, Arlene (Warren) Ramsey of Harbor Beach, Elaine (Bill) Baur of Flushing, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sara Wood, grandson Samuel Aymen, and infant brother Phillip Kociba.

Biography

MARVIN J. KOCIBA, age 83, of Harbor Beach, passed away peacefully, on January 19, 2017 at Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Center of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. He was born on June 23, 1933 to the late Peter and Anna (Romzek) Kociba in Ruth. Marvin and Phyllis Zurek were united in marriage on August 20, 1955 at Holy Trinity Church Smiths Corners. Marvin was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, where he was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister, the Harbor Beach Rotary Club and the Knights of Columbus. He farmed in Rubicon Township all his life, and was also an Independent Real Estate Broker. He enjoyed farming, talking with friends and family, hunting, especially his family deer camp, woods walks with his family, and most of all, his grandchildren. Marvin loved to serve his community, he sat on many boards including: The Harbor Beach Community School Board for 6 years, The Huron County Bank Board which later turned into the Chemical Bank board for over 21 years, The Huron County Road Commission for 18 years, a member of the Huron County Farm Bureau, where he was president, and was on the Washington Legislative Representative for Farm Bureau, a member of the Huron County Community Foundation, the Michigan Milk Producers Association, where he serviced on the State Resolution Board, he sat on the Farm Service Agency Committee for 12 years, the Solid Waste Committee and the TV 5 Coordinator for the Farm and Garden Show. He sat on the Rubicon Township Board of Review and Water Authority, the Harbor Beach Community Hospital Board of Incorporators, and was on the Community House Library Board, and was instrumental in getting the History of Harbor Beach Mural Painted.
