Services will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11 am at the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church in Bad Axe. Burial will be in Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will held on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 3 – 7pm at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe, or Saturday at the church from 10 am until the service time at 11 am. Memorials may be offered to the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Sunday School or the Thumb Animal Shelter. Surviving are her daughter, Tammy Elenbaum, Bad Axe and daughter-in-law, Gina Patterson, Bad Axe. Four grandchildren: Travis Elenbaum (Cindy, fiancée), Caseville, Joshua Elenbaum, Owendale, Ethan Patterson (Cassandra, fiancée), Saginaw and Nicole Patterson, Bad Axe. Six great-grandchildren: Blain, Janessa, Alivia, Devin, McKenna and Mariah. Sister and brother-in-law: Kay and James McCormick, Clearwater, FL. Nieces and Nephews: Dr. Robert McCormick, Charleston, SC., Laura McCormick, Hesperia, CA., Mark(Radene) Kumaus, Traverse City, and Kathy Kumaus, Greensboro, NC. Patricia was proceeded in death by her husband, Donald L. Patterson, her son, Michael L. Patterson, grandson, Brandon S. Elenbaum.

Biography

Patricia Fern Patterson, age 83, of Bad Axe, affectionately known as “Granny” to close family and friends, passed away July 19, 2021. Patricia was born August 21, 1937 to the late Monroe and Helen (Campbell) Schultz. On December 21, 1957, she was united in marriage to Donald L. Patterson at First Presbyterian Church in Bad Axe. He proceeded her in death April 2, 2014. Patricia graduated from Elkton High School. She graduated from Saginaw General Hospital School of Nursing, attended Saginaw Valley State University and Ferris State University. Her Registered Nursing career included Scheurer Hospital and Sunny Acres Nursing Center. From 1965-2011, she worked as a director of nurses, administrator, and owner of Sunny Acres built by her parents. Patricia was a professor at St. Clair Community College. Patricia attended First Presbyterian Church in Bad Axe over the recent years. She played piano, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and participated in the hand bell choir until she turned 81 years. In past years, she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elkton. She was a Sunday School teacher, choir member and certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church. She had an amazing faith that inspired other people. Her interests included pencil drawings, china painting, music, public speaking, dramatic readings, Bible study and needle work. She travelled many places: Alaska, Germany, Maine, Florida and Hawaii to name a few. She never turned down an offer for an adventure or outing with family or friends.
