Funeral Information

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am Wednesday, October 26 at Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Church in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery in Ubly. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 pm and Wednesday from 9:00-10:00 am. There will be a parish vigil service Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Richard is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ann Ypma of Ubly; three children, Brian Ypma and his wife, Jennifer of Capac, Lori Gayeski of Washington, MI, Bradley Ypma and his wife, Jessica, of Columbus, Ind.; two grandchildren, Owen and Hope; one brother, Gerard Ypma and his wife, Penny of Hastings, MI.

Biography

Mr. Richard Ypma, 67 of Ubly and formerly of Cass City, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at his home while under hospice care. He was born on February 6, 1949 in Grand Rapids to the late John and Loretta (Martin) Ypma. He married Ann Bukoski on January 30, 1971 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Richard lived in the thumb area for over 40 years. He was a little league coach in Cass City and a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. Richard was a past member and president of the Cass City Rotary Club. He was a parishioner at St. John Church, Good Shepherd Parish where he served as a past member of the St. John/St. Columbkille Parish Council. Richard was an avid hunter who loved the outdoors. He loved the time he spent at his cottage in Gladwin. Richard loved and cherished his grandchildren and his little dog, “Schultz”.
