Funeral Information

Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly. Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Tuesday from 2-9 pm and Wednesday from 10-11 am at St. John Church only. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary on Tuesday at 4 pm and a parish vigil service at 7 pm. Both services will be at the funeral home. She is survived by her sons Robert (Kathy) of Port Huron, George (Tammy), Phillip (Debbie) of Bad Axe, and Jeffrey of Ubly; daughters Diana (Philip), of Crestview Florida, Kathy (Randy) Stomack, Minden City, Barbara, Darien, IL, and Joyce Mazure of Ubly. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Diana Taylor of Bad Axe. Theresa was the best Grandma to her 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren who also experienced her love, patience and sincerity; sisters, Martha (Chester) Leppek, Ruth, Alice Horetski, Port Austin, and Aggie Taylor, Ironton, Ohio; brother in law Alex Particka, Bad Axe; sisters-in- law, Johanna (Bud) Colesa, Carsonville, and Marilyn Klaus, Deckerville. She was preceded in death by her son’s James and David Taylor and son-in-law John Mazure and brothers Alex, Cass, Lloyd and Jack Grifka, and sisters Eleanor Particka, Gladys and Irene Grifka; in-laws Olive, Margie, Maggie and Kathleen Grifka, Alger Horetski, Frank Taylor, Shirley and Jimmy Schofield, Connie and Gene Fisher, Ed and Doug Taylor and Ken Klaus.

Biography

Theresa was born March 3, 1929 to Edward and Catherine (Polum) Grifka at their home in Austin Township. She attended the Proctor Country School. She married James George Taylor on June 24, 1950. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1970. Theresa worked for Schnieders’ Dairy Bar, Hamil Manufacturing (Ubly, Bad Axe, Imlay City) the Huron Inn and at Gemini Plastics, Inc. where she retired in 1994. Theresa was a loving, kindhearted and devoted mother to her ten children and a wonderful loving grandmother to her grand and great grandchildren. She enjoyed nothing more than their company and being able to prepare a feast for them. She not only raised her children but was a surrogate mother to many of her children’s friends and nieces and nephews at various stages of their lives. She was a devoted Catholic and very comfortable with her love for our Lord and savior. She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist, where she served as a greeter, money counter and was an active member of St. Ann’s circle of the Christian Mothers Confraternity. Her hobbies included various needlework, reading, gardening, word search and crossword puzzles and card playing, especially in the winters in Florida. Theresa will be missed but not forgotten by those who knew her.
