LAKER ELEMENTARY FOURTH GRADERS RECENTLY ENJOYED A MATH LESSON IN JAIME ORLIK'S CLASSROOM, USING THE FAMILIAR ORANGE SQUASH AS THEY LEARNED ABOUT DIAMETER AND CIRCUMFERENCE AND GRAPHING VARIOUS MEASUREMENTS. THEY WEIGHED THE PUMPKINS AS A WHOLE FIRST, THEN CAREFULLY CUT OFF THE TOPS AND SCOOPED OUT THE INSIDE PULP AND WEIGHED THE PUMPKINS AGAIN. SOME STUDENTS THOUROUGHLY ENJOYED GETTING THEIR HANDS COVERED IN THE SOMEWHAT SLIMY INSIDE OF THE PUMPKINS. OTHER STUDENTS - NOT SO MUCH. "THIS IS JUST DISGUSTING," ONE OF THE STUDENTS SAID AS SHE LOOKED AT HER PULP-COVERED HANDS AS IF THEY WERE COVERED IN SOMETHING FROM ANOTHER WORLD.
