A new scholarship program in the Bay region is targeting people who want career training without spending years in school.

The Bay Area Community Foundation has launched its Career and Technical Scholarship Program, offering up to $2,000 toward post-secondary training that can be completed in less than one year.

The money can help cover tuition, books, certification fees and required supplies for programs leading directly to employment. Examples include truck driving, Certified Nursing Assistant training, skilled trades, cosmetology and phlebotomy.

Applicants must be at least 18, and the training must improve their employment opportunities.

The foundation is partnering with Michigan Works! to identify training organizations and approved programs, while also working with the Bay-Arenac Intermediate School District's GED program to connect potential applicants with the opportunity.

Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis through the Bay Area Community Foundation's scholarship portal.

For additional information, applicants can text the letters C-T-P to 989-260-5673.
