Thu, 07 Nov 2019 15:32:04 EST
Vassar Township's new Clerk Deborah Pounds is ready to hit the ground running taking care of township business even though she was just elected during Tuesday's election. The Tuscola County Board of Canvasser completed the count and all results certified with no changes, according to Tuscola County Clerk Jodi Fetting, who is the county's chief election official. "The Vassar Township clerk transition was official at completed of the canvass, which was approximately 1:30 p.m. yesterday," said Fetting. "I administered her oath of office thereafter." The election was regarding the petitioned recall of Micheal Clinesmith as clerk. Clinesmith was on the ballot, and he was challenged by newcomer Deborah Pounds. Pounds won the clerk's seat with 417 votes to Clinesmith's 140 votes. As the duly sworn clerk, Pounds next steps will be to prepare for the township meeting next week as well as any other immediate township business that needs to be handled, Fetting explained.
