The Laker High School's National Honor Society recently inducted its newest members on November 5, 2019, at its annual candle-lit induction ceremony. Twenty-four new members were inducted at this ceremony, which was held in Laker's newly renovated auditorium. These new inductees added to the membership of the Laker chapter's forty-seven current active members. Featured speakers during the ceremony included: Kaylee Maust, Keegan Binder, Jaelyn Talaski, and Maci Main. Special music was presented by Alexa Smithers during the ceremony.
The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious organizations for high school students. There are chapters in more than 16,000 high schools, and since its inception in 1921, millions of students have been selected for membership. Students inducted pledged to continue to uphold the four pillars that make up the National Honor Society (NHS) which are scholarship, service, character, and leadership.
"It's wonderful for Lakers to have such a large group of motivated, focused young people," Laker National Honor Society Advisor Jeff Etzel stated. "Their desire to be involved in the National Honor Society shows their dedication to grow as leaders and their desire to serve the Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Communities. I couldn't be more proud." Etzel added, "While this is a great accomplishment for these students, the induction really signifies much more than just an achievement, more than just another notation to add on their college applications. Induction into the National Honor Society is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to the four pillars of the National Honor Society."
Laker High School students inducted included the following: Sophomores - Joslyn Cociuba, Jacquelyn Good, Jadyn Iseler, Hannah Keim, Courtney Kipp, James Kleecamp, Zachary Kretzschmer, Peyton Kuhn, Morgan Langley, Erin McArdle, Alyssa Ontiveros, Colton Oyervidez,Alexandria Scaddan, Dylan Schave, Savannah Schulz, Faith Schuyler, Olivia Seley, Alexander Smith, Nicholas Trost, Katie Turner, Maya Viers, and Dylan Wehner; Junior - Taylor Harcourt; and Senior - Chloe Guest.
