Following a public hearing on a special use permit that would establish and maintain a sand mining operation on a 20 acre site in Grant Township, that was approved at Wednesday's Huron County Planning Commission meeting. Building and Zoning Director Jeff Smith said that correspondence from two people were received on the request and one person was in attendance. They were mainly concerned with truck traffic and damage to roads in the area on Moore Road. Randy Willing of West Side Sand Products sought the special use permit. Some of the discussion was on working with the road commission on road bonding for the increased traffic and wear on the road and bonding to reclaim the land after the mining operations are done.
Next Wednesday will be two more public hearings, one is a request from Buchholz Properties LLC on Sturm Road to relocated an existing cold storage building, the other is a zoning change concerning the Sherman Township Hall. Both of those matters had a site plan review at the regular meeting Wednesday that were approved, subject to those pubic hearings next week and then final approval.
