The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch starting at 8 p.m. tonight through 2 p.m., Sunday for the entire Thumb region.
The warning is being issued because a storm is predicted for the area that could produce rainfall of an inch per hour.
Thumb residents along the shoreline are being urged to monitor the situation and take action to mitigate flood damage by removing items from basements, and to move livestock, pets and vehicles to a safe area.
And, the most important reminder is "turn around - don't drown" instead of driving on roadways that are underwater.
The road could have damage hidden under the water, and swift moving flood water can sweep a vehicle away.
A Flash Flood Watch means conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
A Flood Warning is issued when the hazardous weather event is imminent or already happening.
A Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for a hazardous weather event to occur.
