AN OUTPOURING OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND PARENTS CAME TO A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CASS CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION TO DISCUSS SAFETY IN SCHOOLS AND THE WAY A RECENT GUN THREAT HAD BEEN HANDLED ON MONDAY NIGHT. THERE SEEMED TO BE A GENERAL CONSENSUS AMONG PARENTS THAT SPOKE AND THE SUPPORTIVE AUDIENCE ,THAT AS PARENTS IT IS THEIR JOB TO STAY INVOLVED IN THEIR CHILDREN'S LIVES AND TO KEEP UP TO DATE ON HOW THEY ARE FEELING AND WHO THEY ARE SPENDING TIME WITH. SOME PARENTS RAISED CONCERN THAT THE MOSTLY WORD OF MOUTH INVESTIGATION THAT TOOK PLACE, WITH NO REAL PHYSICAL EVIDENCE THE EVENT WOULD TAKE PLACE COULD BECOME A REGULAR HAPPENING. FEARING STUDENTS MAY POINT FINGERS AT THOSE OTHERS THEY DON'T LIKE JUST TO GET THEM IN TROUBLE.
SPEAKING WITH SUPERINTENDENT JEFF HARTEL (HEART-UL) AFTER THE MEETING HE TOLD US THAT MANY STUDENTS ALL TOLD STORIES THAT WERE EXTREMELY THE SAME, ACTING AS EVIDENCE THE THREAT HAD BEEN MADE. HARTEL ALSO STATED HE BELIEVES THAT THE STUDENT IN QUESTION, BEING ONLY A 16 YEAR OLD MAN, IS STILL YOUNG AND PERHAPS JUST SAID SOME THINGS HE SHOULDN'T HAVE AND DIDN'T MEAN. IT WAS DECIDED THAT STUDENT HAS BEEN EXPELLED FROM CASS CITY HIGH SCHOOL AND WILL NOW BE ATTENDING CLASSES ELSEWHERE.
