State Rep. Greg Alexander said Michigan should prioritize infrastructure, lowering costs for families, and strengthening the economy rather than expanding government spending, following Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's recent State of the State address.

Alexander criticized the governor's proposed budget for increasing spending and potentially drawing from the state's rainy-day fund. He argued that additional government programs could lead to higher costs for taxpayers and said lawmakers should instead focus on returning money to residents and funding core services such as roads, public safety, and schools.

He also highlighted his support for reducing regulations in licensing, health care, and housing to encourage job growth and help small businesses. On education, Alexander questioned the effectiveness of recent policy changes, pointing to declining third-grade reading scores and calling for clearer academic standards.

Additionally, he raised concerns about the state's energy policies, advocating for greater local control over large-scale projects and emphasizing the need for reliable and affordable power.
