The crash happened at 8:15 a.m. on February 26th along Van Dyke Road right in front of Thumb Broadcasting, in Colfax Township.
According to the traffic crash report, a 2015 Ford Edge, driven by one of Thumb Broadcastings employees, was stopped in the roadway, preparing to make a left turn into the radio station when it was rear-ended by a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck traveling westbound.
Authorities say the driver of the pickup told deputies he did not see the SUV stopped ahead until it was too late to avoid the collision. The SUV driver reported she had been waiting to turn when her vehicle was struck from behind.
Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene. The SUV was removed by a local towing service, while the pickup was towed to a residence on Nugent Road.
The female driverof the SUV, from Harbor Beach, and the 17 year old male driver, from Sebewaing, of the pickup were both wearing seatbelts. Airbags deployed in the pickup truck. Neither driver reported injuries at the scene, and no ambulance transport was required.
Weather conditions were clear at the time of the crash, and the roadway was dry. Police cited the pickup driver for hazardous action, specifically unable to stop within an assured clear distance.
The Bad Axe Police Department and the Huron County Road Commission assisted at the scene.
