A state grant has been awarded to an internet company to expand service in a Sanilac County Township.

Comcast has been awarded a grant through the state's Broadband Equity and Access Deployment (BEAD) program.

The company will use that funding to install new wi-fi and hardwire networks in rural areas.

That expansion includes Almont Township.

That funding is expected to be able to extend internet service to about 1,200 homes in the township.

In other matters, the board approved two mining permits.

The permit for the Pansera Pit, which was formerly known as the Bristol

Pit, was renewed for one year, and the permit for the VP Capital, LLC pit was also renewed for another year.
