There will be at least two Tuscola County proposals on the ballot during the August election for residents to vote on.
One proposal will be for the Tuscola County Mosquito Abatement millage renewal.
The renewal request is for .6316 of a mill for six years.
If the ballot request is approved, it would generate an estimated $1,514,134 the first year.
Voters established that service with the first millage in 1997.
In other mosquito related matters, commissioners approved about 20 people who will be hired during the summer to do mosquito suppression work.
That department's director Larry Zapfe also received approval to purchase the necessary materials used in the suppression effort.
The cost for the material used for suppression $143,514 and $16,460.
Also, the department has to replace two ULV foggers at a cost of $37,948.
From wages to material and equipment, the millage for mosquito abatement comes from the millage that is levied.
Also, during the August election there will also be a ballot request to fund 9-1-1 emergency services.
The proposal will ask voters to approve .45 of a mill for four years to operate central dispatch emergency services.
Passage of the millage would generate about $1,078,785 the first year.
The emergency dispatch center handles the dispatching of 12 police departments, four ambulance services, and 16 fire departments.
The equipment to do all of that is aging, wearing out, or needs to be upgraded.
