Hemlock, Michigan - This is more than a collection of projects. It is a coordinated effort to reimagine what a public school campus can be for students, families, and the entire community.

Over the past several years, Hemlock has made strategic investments in facilities, programming, and partnerships. Today, those efforts come together under one clear direction: creating a connected campus that supports learning, wellness, and opportunity at every level.

At the center of this work is the newly opened Patrick Wolgast Fieldhouse, providing year-round access for student training and physical activity. "Our goal is simple," said Superintendent Dr. Don Killingbeck Jr. "We want every student, every family, and every community member to feel like this campus belongs to them. The Campus of Opportunity is about access, growth, and creating experiences that prepare students for life."

The Campus of Opportunity also builds on the continued expansion of the Lockwood STEM Center, where students engage in hands-on learning in areas such as robotics, engineering, and emerging technologies. These opportunities are intentionally aligned with career pathways and regional workforce needs.

Board of Education President Matt Wesener emphasized the long-term vision behind the work. "This is what happens when a board stays focused on the big picture," said Wesener. "We are not chasing short-term wins. We are building something that will serve students and this community for decades to come."

The district's approach connects multiple areas into a single, cohesive experience:

* Modernized facilities designed for flexible student and community use
* Expanded academic pathways, including Early Middle College and Advanced Placement opportunities
* A growing focus on student wellness and year-round physical activity
* Strong partnerships that connect students to real-world experiences

Rather than operating in silos, each piece is intentionally aligned to support a shared outcome: preparing students for success while strengthening the community as a whole.

"This is about more than buildings," added Killingbeck. "It is about creating a place where students can discover their strengths, develop their skills, and see what is possible for their future."

As Hemlock Public School District moves forward, the Campus of Opportunity will continue to evolve, guided by community input and a commitment to innovation.
