Carol is survived by her two sons, Charles (Chelsea) Corbishley of Bad Axe and Christopher Corbishley of Lansing. Her grandchildren, Fisher, Hazel, and Baker Corbishley. Her sisters, Karen (Duey) Holz, Ruth (Larry) Fell, Kathy (John) Holz, Lori (Dan) Schultz, sister-in-law Donna Ross and her brother Kevin (JoLynn) Ross. Her Aunt Mary Lou & Uncle Kirk Powers, Uncle Bob Jelinek, and Aunt Leona McDonald. Several cousins, nieces and nephews and great niece and nephews, and several close friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Ross and stepmother Agnes Ross and her mother Jeanette Hewitt and stepfather James Hewitt. Her brothers Gary Ross and Ken Ross and sister Shirley Bredow and brother-in-law Bill Bredow, beloved aunts and uncles and grandparents.

Biography

Carol Jean Corbishley, age 76, of Bad Axe went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 3, 2024. She was born on August 17, 1947, in Bad Axe Michigan, daughter of the late Frank (Agnes) Ross and the late Jeanette (James)Hewitt. Carol graduated from Ubly High School, the class of 1965 and went on to pursue her education at Spring Arbor College in Psychology and Social Science. She continued her education at Asbury Theological Seminary studying Christian Education, graduating in the class of 1976. She was employed as a Social Worker at Huron Medical Center where she worked until she retired after 31 years. After retirement, Carol became ordained as an Elder in the Free Methodist Church, East Michigan Conference, and served as a Pastor of Congregational Life at the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church the rest of her life. Carol lived her life to serve the Lord and to be an encouragement to other people. Her philosophy in life was to do the right thing no matter what. Her goal was to live an example to show others that God is with us no matter what. Love the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 She continued spreading her faith until her last days by sharing her daily bible verses on Facebook. Above all else, being a mother and Grandmother brought Carol the most joy. Affectionately referred to as “Grammy” by her three grandchildren: Fisher, Hazel, and Baker.

Donald M. Verfaillie, 65, of Caseville, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024 at his home in Caseville. Donald was born December 18, 1958 in Detroit to the late Marcel and Eleanor (Persyn) Verfaillie. He grew up in Detroit and moved to Caseville later in life. Growing up he enjoyed playing hockey, baseball and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends when he was able. He has many, many friends that will miss him dearly.

Michelle E., 65, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at home. Michelle was born January 8, 1959 in Detroit to the late H. Gregory and Barbara (Hunyadi) Meyer. She graduated from Caseville High School in 1977. On July 21, 1979 she married Douglas Wiederhold; he preceded her in death on July 15, 2019. Michelle enjoyed crafting, thrifting, and playing BINGO. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Selma May (Ulfig) Maurer, age 94 of Filion passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Selma was born on June 14, 1929 in Parisville, daughter of the late John and Susannah (Smaglinski) Ulfig. She graduated from Harbor Beach High School in 1946. She married Robert P. Maurer on October 7, 1950 at St. Felix Church in Pinnebog. They were married 64 years. Robert preceded her in death on June 22, 2015. Robert served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. Selma traveled to different states with him. She assisted him in farming and the trucking business. Selma enjoyed crocheting, reading, sewing, cooking, baking, and playing cards.

He was born on November 7, 2003, in Bad Axe, son of Tanya (Baker) Miller of Elkton and Roger Miller of Bad Axe. Jordan loved to sing and dance to any type of music you had on. He loved bowling, hunting, and fishing. He participated in Arts and Crafts for 4-H. Jordan also enjoyed playing video games. One thing for sure is that he loved his family.

Biography

Joyce Ann (Bouck) Miller, 72, of Caseville left us on April 26, 2024 under the loving care of her family at her daughter’s home near Baltimore, Maryland after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Joyce was born on November 2, 1951, in Pigeon to Virgil and Verneta Bouck. She graduated from Laker High School in 1969, then attended Central Michigan University where she met and married Harold Eagen. They became the proud parents of Fawn, Jake, and Mag. Joyce’s career was in the legal field. First, in Denver where they raised their family. She moved to Lansing and became a Legal Secretary/Assistant for Foster Swift Collins & Smith where she formed a sisterhood of friends. It was there that she also met Gordon Miller. They were married and made wonderful memories until his untimely passing. In 2013 she moved back to her farm in the Thumb, building a house designed by her son, to replicate Florence Schluchter’s, where she had so many fond memories while growing up. Joyce was independent, adventurous, and strong willed. She worked hard for what she believed in and generously helped others. She loved history, working tirelessly with others at Caseville Historical Society. She collected and sold antiques. Her interest in antique buttons led to her membership in the Thumb Button Club. She was an avid reader and mindfully cultivated a collection of books. After surviving breast cancer she participated in Casting for Recovery where she met what were to become life-long friends. Her enjoyment of fly fishing took her around the country even as far as Alaska to perfect her skill. She loved nature and being outdoors. She collected rocks from her field and enjoyed using her artistic talent to paint them. She made many special travel memories from around the world with family and friends.

Biography

David Clardie of Bad Axe, MI, age 82, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, April 26th, 2024. David was born on October 17, 1941 in Mound City, IL, son of the late Amos and Marion Virginia (Sisk) Clardie. He married Sheila Fadden on January 29th, 1965 Affectionately known as “Papa” to his grandchildren, David grew up as one of 10 children raised in the South by their feisty mother. Shortly after marrying his wife of almost 60 years, Sheila, they received Christ as Savior and began to follow a new purpose. David was called to ministry, and went on to grow various churches before pursuing a career in full time evangelism. It is impossible to tally how many thousands of people found Christ and experienced changed lives because of David and Sheila. Dave had a special way of endearing himself to people whether it was through his preaching, sitting next to someone at one of his grandsons' ballgames, or maybe a doctor or delivery person. David had a special gift and wit in communicating the gospel that drew people in. What we all will remember most is how he loved God, loved his family, and loved others enough to guide them toward Jesus. Well done, good and faithful servant!

He was a member of the Bad Axe High School State Football Champions in 1963 and graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1964. He retired from General Motors. He served in the US Army from 1964 to 1967.

John A. Connolly, Sr. of Cass City passed away Monday April 22, 2024 at the age of 82 at Fisher Senior Care and Rehab in Mayville. He was born March 14, 1942 in Wayne Michigan. John was united in marriage with Deborah Raymond on December 30, 2023. He loved spending time with family and friends. John was an avid gun collector, he loved setting up at gun shows and flea markets and talking to whomever came along. He was an active member of the Cass City Gun Club. He enjoyed playing cards, shooting trap and skeet, and getting youth involved in shooting sports. John loved sports, he really loved his years spent coaching softball, he is still lovingly known to this day as “Mr. C” by his former players. He loved watching the little league world series, football, and sleeping to PGA Golf. John owned and operated J & C Service of Cass City where he devotedly fixed the community’s vehicles for forty-three years. Although he devoted over forty-five years to auto repair, he loved logging. He began working in the woods for family at an early age and it was always in his blood.

Chuck is also survived by his brothers Richard (Sharon) Sobczak, Andy (Sue) Lapka, Tim Lapka; sister Deb (Dave) Butcher; brothers-in-law Mike (Patty) Finan, Mark Finan (Lisa Camstra) and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his 4-legged companion Sadie. In addition to his late wife, Sally, Chuck was also preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Nancy, his nephews, Robert and Cliff, niece Melissa, sister-in-law Cheryl Lapka and brother-in-law Joe Finan. The family would like to thank the McLaren hospice team for their support and care during Chuck’s illness, especially his nurse, Jean.

Charles Joseph Lapka Jr., 76 years old, “Chuck” to those who knew him best, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, in Bad Axe after a courageous battle with cancer. He is the son of the late Charles Joseph Lapka Sr. and Albertha Lapka (Talaski) and was born on June 9th, 1947, in Kinde, Michigan. After graduating from Kinde High School in 1965, Chuck was drafted into the Army and served his country through two tours in Vietnam. He was also well-known throughout the area for his talents in stone masonry and construction work. Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a 1978 Full Dresser that he was very proud of and received awards for. Everyone who knows Chuck also knows that he had “the gift of gab,” and was renowned for his storytelling with his family, friends, and community. On June 28th, 1980, Chuck married the late Sally Finan, the love of his life, and adopted her two daughters as his own. Although he will be deeply missed by those who loved him, there is comfort that Chuck and Sally are together once again.

Nancy is survived by her three children, nine grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren; her son David (Sherri) of Pigeon, daughter Carol (Joel) Nelson of Muskego, Wisconsin and son Daniel (Elizabeth) of Williamston, Michigan; grandchildren Alyssa Kraft (Dan) of Austin, Texas, Stephanie (Allan) McLean of Shelby Township, Michigan, Matthew (Steph) Kraft of Western Springs, Illinois, Natalie (Micah) Walz of New Berlin, Wisconsin, Eric (Aly) Nelson, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lindsay (Jamie) Langan of Mount Prospect, Illinois, Stuart (Amber) Neils of Petoskey, Michigan, Ella (Josh) Vaillancourt of Holt, Michigan and Grace Kraft of Grand Rapids, Michigan; great-grandchildren Shawn, Ethan, Brody, Cooper, Anna, Caroline, Layla, Mason, Zoey, Sadie, Jack, Lily, Theo and Sutton; Nancy is also survived by her brother, Robert Carpenter of Grand Rapids, sister-in-law Naomi (Gilbert) Wichert and many nieces and nephews.

Biography

Nancy Ann Kraft, 92, of Pigeon, was called home peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at home. Nancy was born June 12, 1931 in Grayling to the late George and Marian (Breinager) Carpenter. She was made a child of God through Holy Baptism on April 21, 1935. Nancy married Lowell E. Kraft on May 3, 1952 in Bronson, Michigan. They celebrated 70 years of marriage shortly before Lowell’s passing in 2022. Nancy’s sister, Mary Kay Prudden passed away in 2023. Nancy graduated from Pigeon High School in 1949. She attended Michigan State University and later Central Michigan University finishing the last two years of her teaching degree while her children were young. She taught second and third grades at the Pigeon Elementary School in the 1960’s. Nancy always enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She taught them kindness, compassion, and love. Nancy was a gifted homemaker and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Always an optimist, she was a talented seamstress with a fun sense of humor who enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and playing Bridge. She enjoyed traveling with Lowell and spending winters at their home in Boynton Beach, Florida. While in Florida they attended Divine Savior Lutheran Church in West Palm Beach. She has been a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne since 1952.

Mary Ann is survived by two brothers, Edward Greyerbiehl of Columbiaville, William Greyerbiehl and special friend Marie Heleski of Bad Axe, four sisters, Diane Fields of Turner, Mi, Beth Laycock of Paris, TN, Barbara (Paul) Armstrong of Chatham, Va, and Patricia McCoy of Bad Axe, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her step father, William R. Boss, brother-in-laws Dennis Laycock, Richard McCoy, and Larry Fields and her special kitty Picky.

Biography

Mary Ann Greyerbiehl, age 83 of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024 after a short illness. She was born on June 1, 1940 in Bad Axe, daughter of the late Jacob Henry Greyerbiehl and Stella (Dzukola) Boss. Mary Ann was a long time attendee of the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene and their weekly Bible Study. Her faith was shown through her actions and attitude toward life. Mary Ann loved life and always stayed positive and cheerful even when life gave her immense challenges. At a very young age, she survived an accident that disabled her for the rest of her life, which she endured with grace and dignity. A beautiful smile was an ever presence on her face. For many years, Mary Ann enjoyed working at Thumb Industries Thrift Store up until age 80. Her deeply loved interests were her family, dolls, purses, music records, puzzles, yarn, coloring books with crayons, French fries and potato chips.
