Dennis Scott Walling, 67 of Argyle passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife, daughters, son in law and grandkids on December 22, 2025. Dennis was born March 24, 1958 in Deckerville to Larry and Irene (Peruski) Walling. He graduated from Deckerville High School in 1976. He married his high school sweetheart Vicky Franzel July 17, 1976 then served four years in the U.S Navy where he learned the trade as a CNC lathe machinist. He was an excellent machinist and loved doing it. After the military he worked at Axley Tool & Bushing in Bad Axe, Moore Industries in Elkton, Die Form in Deckerville then Nexteer in Saginaw. He retired from Nexteer after he lost feeling in his arms due to his cancer surgery in February 2010. Dennis enjoyed riding his Harley, playing Euchre, camping/fishing, gardening, canning and being with his family and friends. His grandkids were his pride and joy.

Gary G. Schave, age 87 of Port Hope, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Meadow Lane Assisted Living, under hospice care. He was born on July 5, 1938 in Port Hope, to the late Floyd and Frieda (Schubring) Schave. Gary served in the US Navy Seabees from 1957-1961.Gary and Joyce Reinke were united in marriage on September 11, 1971 in Port Hope. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2005. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope. Gary loved farming, and farmed his whole life. He could do just about anything that he needed to do. He was also an avid Detroit sports fan, cheering on the Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings anytime he could.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Viola Klebba.
Frances (Fran) Holdwick, age 78 of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 with her family by her side at McLaren Thumb Region Hospital in Bad Axe. Fran was born on February 25, 1947, daughter of the late Frank and Viola Klebba. She was the Huron County Register of Deeds from 1978 until she retired in 2008. Fran was a member of St. Hubert Parish – Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe, where she served as a lector. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and her many friends and she always had a smile on her face.

James “Jim” Frederick Warren, 83, of Caseville passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at Bay View Gardens in Sebewaing, Michigan, with his family by his side. Jim was born on April 27, 1942, in Detroit to the late Wilbur “Guy” and Maude “Lucille” (Kast) Warren and was a 1960 graduate of Pigeon High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy after graduating high school and served as an electrician on the U.S.S. Hunley from 1960 to 1964, including during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his honorable discharge, Jim went to work in robotics, first for Chrysler and then Ford until his retirement in 2005. He married his high school sweetheart Joyce Maxwell on June 20, 1964, at St. Roch Catholic Church. The couple spent over 61 years together, raising a loving family together in their home in Pigeon. Jim was a member of the Imlay City Knights of Columbus Council 4556 and American Legion post 135. Along with Joyce, Jim was a devout Catholic, splitting his time between St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Dryden and St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing throughout Michigan, tending a large garden from which he canned and preserved numerous fruits and veggies, and collecting maple syrup from the trees on his property. Jim was a great cook who loved to host his friends and family and could always be found cracking jokes and sharing his good nature with those around him. He is remembered as being independent, guided by his convictions and steadfast nature. Jim was dependable and went above and beyond for those he loved. He was tough but generous to a fault, always quick to lend a hand to any person (or animal) in need.

Robert Alan Tate, 75, of Pigeon, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Scheurer Health in Pigeon. Bob was born May 20, 1950 in Cass City to the late Raymond and Eleanor (Schulze) Tate. In 1968 he graduated from Laker High School. He married Linda Grifka on July 12, 1975 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Bob retired from Axis Machining and Winsor Twp Fire Department. He loved youth sports, either organizing various leagues and teams, cheering on his grandkids, or coaching his kids in baseball and football. He loved spreading Christmas joy to young and old alike. He enjoyed the outdoors and woodworking, with his garage being his gallery and place to gather with family and friends. On nice days he could be found riding and enjoying his motorcycle around the Thumb.

Paul Michael Walsh, 73, of Caseville, passed away Friday, December 19, 2025 at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. Mike was born January 3, 1952 in Cass City to the late Paul Daniel and Maxine Ruby (Elftman) Walsh. In 1970 he graduated from Laker High School. He married Patricia Smith on June 17, 1972 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. In his early career he worked for his family business, Walsh Packing in Pigeon. In 1976 he opened Walsh Gun and in 1986 he opened Walsh Gun and Tackle in Caseville, where he enjoyed working seven days a week. He was a former member of the Winsor Twp Fire Department, lifelong member and former President at the Caseville Rod and Gun Club, and the Caseville Eagles Club. In 1974 he won the Class C World Championship in Trap Shooting in Vandalia, Ohio, scoring 325 straight, without a miss. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, trap shooting, online auctions, riding motorcycles, storytelling and making people smile.

On June 2, 1962, Eugene married Ethel (Craig) Rupprecht of Filion, Michigan, and together they raised two children. He is survived by his wife, Ethel, son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Carlene Rupprecht, three grandchildren Jessica Myks, Christopher Myks, Brandon Myks; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel Grekowicz and Eric Grekowicz, four grandchildren, Maria (Joseph) Dallo, Douglas Grekowicz, Veronika Grekowicz, and Theresa Grekowicz, and great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Felicity, Rebekah, and Benedict Dallo. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Hetzner.
Eugene Rupprecht passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus Christ Our Lord on December 20, 2025. The son of Erwin and Olga Rupprecht, Eugene spent his final days in Bad Axe, Michigan surrounded by his wife and two children. Born in Richville, Michigan, Eugene graduated from Vassar high school in 1953. He worked at the Bad Axe Grain Elevator as a bookkeeper, Huron Memorial Hospital as the hospital administrator, and as a Certified Public Accountant. He taught bowling for 12 years to kids in 4-H, coached Little League baseball for 20 years, taught Cub Scouts, Webelos, and Boy Scouts for 15 years, Sunday school for five years, and was a foster parent. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe where he served as church President, Elder, and after retirement as church custodian for 12 years with his wife Ethel. He was an avid sports fan watching the Detroit Lions and Tigers. He loved to travel, hunt, fish, and take drives with his wife along the shoreline.

Margaret Louise Leitch, 66 years old of Ubly, passed away with her family by her side December 17, 2025 following a courageous battle with cancer. Margaret is the daughter of the late Murdock and Letta (Harder) Leitch. Margaret was best known for her deep love of family, doting on her nieces and later their children, sharing her sewing creations, enjoying camping trips and adding stamps to her passport. Margaret was a loving baker who shared her baked goods with friends, neighbors and her church family. She was always there for those she loved, faithfully putting family first and never missing a single school activity, program, or competition. Her presence was a constant source of love, encouragement, and support. Margaret was very active as a member of Fraser Presbyterian Church.

Bernard “Sonny” William Holdwick, age 89, of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Courtney Manor of Bad Axe with family by his side. Bernard was born at home in Sherman Township on May 14, 1936, to the late Bernard A. “Ben” and Cecelia (Wipping) Holdwick. Bernard and Violet (Booms) were united in marriage on November 5, 1960, in Helena, MI. They were married for 49 years; she preceded him in death on November 8, 2009. Sonny was a lifelong farmer and lived all of his days on the farm where he was born. He was also a lifelong parishioner at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3823 of Ruth. Beyond his family and life’s work on the farm, Sonny enjoyed a good chicken dinner, playing euchre (preferably with a few lone hands), and taking long, slow crop tours, whether on his own farm on the golf cart or throughout the neighborhood in his old, red Ford pickup.

Marvin Messing, a devoted husband, loving father, and lifelong steward of the land, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at his winter home in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 87. He was born on August 13, 1938, in Ruth, Michigan, to the late Walter and Dorothy (Buhl) Messing. In 1961, Marvin married the love of his life, Lorene (Heleski). Together, they shared a profound bond for 64 years, building a family and a life rooted in faith and community. Marvin was a dedicated member of the Catholic Church throughout his entire lifetime, worshiping at St. Columbkille, Sheridan Corners, MI, alongside Lorene and his family. Marvin dedicated 65 years to farming, beginning his stewardship of the land in 1962. His work was more than a profession; it was a legacy. The Messing farm has been a cherished part of the family for three generations and continues to flourish today, now operated by his granddaughter Ashley Kennedy and her family. Beyond the fields, Marvin found great satisfaction in his bountiful garden, ensuring that no one ever left their house in Michigan without taking home fresh vegetables. He loved to play cards, especially when it meant gathering around a table with cherished friends and family. Marvin and Lorene cherished their time in Mesa, where their neighbors became close and cherished friends over the years. Above all, he was dedicated to his family and loved spending time with them.
