John is survived by his brothers, Carl, Gary (Elaine), Rick (Rose), and Randy (Kathy) Collings, a sister-in-law, Sharon A. Collings, stepchildren, Richie and Jill Buchholz with whom he had been living with the last seven years, Wade Witherspoon, Brian (Laura) Witherspoon and Anna Siewert (Mike Siewert). John was very proud to be a “Papa” and had 17 grandchildren, one-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.. He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, parents Roy and Helen Collings, two brothers, Roy II. and William Collings, two sisters, Mary Proctor and Judy Mazure, brother-in-law, Albert Mazure, father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Losetta Radabaugh, sister-in-law Dana Radabaugh, and a step-great grandson.
John E. Collings, 82, passed away on March 29th, 2026. He was the second son born to the late Roy and Helen (Goretski) Collings of Verona Township. John was a dairy farmer his entire life, retiring in July of 2013 after 51 years working on the family farm. In November of 1993 John married Sharon L. (Radabaugh) Buchholz at the Free Methodist Church in Bad Axe. He and Sharon attended church on a regular basis and both enjoyed singing in the church choir. John was a greeter at the church and thoroughly enjoyed seeing everyone on Sunday morning and handing out candy to the kids entering the church doors. John loved children, no matter how old and who they were, but he especially loved his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews. He was a great talker and would talk to and make friends with everyone. He loved people and brought joy to so many that knew him.

Kirsch will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ronald J. Kirsch, age 87, of Harbor Beach, a family man and farmer, passed away on March 28, 2026. His life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and love for God, family, and farming. Ronald found great joy in farming—a calling that was more than an occupation; it was his way of life. He especially loved raising livestock and growing crops. Through long days and changing seasons, he worked with care and determination, building not only a livelihood but a legacy rooted in perseverance and respect for his farm. He was extremely proud of the land being in his family for over 100 years and certified as a Centennial Farm. He and his beloved wife of 66 years, Marlene (Essenmacher), were married on August 29, 1959, at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. He was also a member of Rapson Sportsmen’s Club, Grindstone/Port Hope Sportsmen’s Club, Harbor Beach Chapter of the Jaycees and the National Farmers Organization. He was named the Michigan State Young Farmer of the year in 1971 by the Michigan Jaycees. Ronald also enjoyed playing euchre with family and friends, a pastime that brought laughter, friendly competition, and countless cherished memories.

On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Kurt Douglas Schember, age 59, of Bad Axe entered into heaven and was reunited with family and friends who went before him, and left behind many family and friends that came for a final good-bye at McLaren hospital in Flint. Those that came to show their love and support to him in his final moments was a loving experience that his wife and son will forever cherish. Kurt was born on August 13th,1966 in Bad Axe, son of Dale and Marilyn (Brakenberry) Schember. He graduated from Laker High School in 1985 and went on to marry his best friend Lisa Drabek on August 15, 1987. They spent 38 years together raising their son and making many memories.Kurt was employed at Thumb Tool and Engineering for over 37 years. He loved spending time with his son, Cody, was a dedicated U of M fan, Go Blue! And spent many years coaching football for Bad Axe Schools and Bad Axe Little League. He also enjoyed gardening, canning and snuggling with his fur babies (Jackson, Beau and BlackJack) Those left behind will miss him forever.

Doris T. Stimpfel, 81, of Cass City died peacefully Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in her home. Doris was born January 7, 1945, in Paris Township to Edmund F. and Leona M. (O’Parka) Peplinski. Doris graduated from St. Peter and Paul High School, Ruth, in 1963. For a short time, she worked in Detroit. On August 3, 1964, Doris married her high school sweetheart, US Navy sailor Thomas A. Stimpfel in Newport, R.I. Eventually they returned to Michigan and raised their four children in Cass City. Doris worked at General Cable for twenty seven years before retiring in 2001, when the plant closed. A happy, energetic person, she was a very skilled trap shooter at the Cass City Gun Club and found joy in dancing whether line dancing or belly dancing. Doris loved her family and the many gatherings and bon fires where she made more than enough food for all. Time spent with her sisters always led to fun and crazy adventures. She had a creative mind, always focused on making her house a loving and festive home, especially during the holidays. Doris enjoyed time spent volunteering at Revive and the Octagon Barn, and especially loved spending many hours with her Novesta Church of Christ family, greeting parishioners, making quilts, organizing swap days, and serving luncheons.

Jean Ruppel Krohn of Bad Axe passed away suddenly on Friday, March 20, 2026, while spending time at her winter home in Ave Maria, Florida. Jean was born June 4, 1943, in Harbor Beach, Michigan to George and Irene (Winkel) Layer. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She graduated from Harbor Beach High School before spendingmost of career working at the Huron Memorial Hospital. On July 7, 2023, she married the love of her life, James Krohn, and they were together for more than 25 years. Together they blended their families, Maureen (Gerry Cook) Mausolf, Angie Souva, James (Erika) Krohn, and Kevin Krohn. She gladly stepped into the role of the family matriarch when she first became a grandmother more than 40 years ago and enjoyed hosting family for holidays, spontaneous picnics and dinners, and numerous sleepovers for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family and friends, tending to her garden, spending time near her pond at her Bad Axe home or by her pool in her Naples, Florida home. She enjoyed games – especially puzzles, rummikub, and bocce ball, playing cards, andgolfing. She loved antiquing and finding a good bargain at a garage sale, characteristics she passed on to children and grandchildren. She enjoyed entertaining at her pond at her home in Bad Axe and hosting events like James’s class reunions, neighbor parties, and even some of her grandchildrens’ wedding rehearsal dinners. She had a heart of gold and was known for taking care of people and looking out for others. She was quick to share some of her homemade jam made with raspberries from her garden or bake someone a pie when they needed a pick-me-up. She also had a soft spot for animals. The neighborhood cats always knew where to find her and that she would keep them fed. When a group of newborn kittens were left without parents, she bottle fed them until a shelter was able to take them in.

Rodney John Weiss, age 83 of Port Hope passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026. He was born on January 16, 1943, to the late Otto and Clara (Schmidt) Weiss. He graduated in 1961 from Harbor Beach High School. Rodney married Janet Schmaltz on October 6, 1962, and she preceded him in death on June 9, 2024. Rodney was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Rodney farmed until 1979, and he and Janet owned and operated Forest Bay Cottages for 40 years. Rodney also was a fishing charter captain for 15 years and worked as a real estate agent. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved living on the lake, he also enjoyed gardening, bon-fires and spending time with family and grandchildren.

He found peace gardening around his vacation home in Gaylord, Michigan, where he could also be found relishing his favorite Polish brandy, "Janoofka." A skilled professional in electrical motor repair, Ron operated and owned a successful business, earning respect and admiration in his field. Beyond his career, he shared a deep love for his dogs, Coco and Roxy, with his cherished wife, Shirley, who passed away just two days before him.Ron shared a beautiful and inspiring life journey with his late wife, Shirley Ann Osentoski, who passed on March 16, 2026. Mary Jane was a generous, dutiful, and humble woman, daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She spent many years working with charitable organizations such as The Knights of Columbus, The Red Hat Society, multiple food pantries, The Daughters of Isabella, and the 50 and over club, where she held several offices among multiple organizations. Mary Jane loved to create, and always kept her hands busy, whether it was tending to her garden, crafting quilts for World Relief, creating clothing and toys for her grandchildren, or preparing frequent meals and baked goods for her family and loved ones; she could almost always be found finding ways to serve and care for others. She led a well rounded life with her love of family and charity accompanied by a passion for experiencing the world around her. An avid traveler, she went on many trips, whether to Europe, or more locally to visit lighthouses, waterfalls, casinos, and other outings with members of the communities she was involved in. She balanced her love for travel, and her love for her home and the people in and around it in a remarkable way that she will always be admired and remembered for.

Shirley dedicated many years of her career to the Anchor Bay School District, where she brought kindness and expertise until her retirement. Alongside Shirley in eternal rest, Ronald Joseph Osentoski, her devoted partner, passed away on March 18, 2026. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and shared passions. Joshua C. Sorenson, 44, of Cass City passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 15, 2026. He was born May 2, 1981 in Cass City to Craig and Carolyn (Smith) Sorenson. Josh attended Owen-Gage schools, then Cass City High School graduating with the class of 2000. He also attended the Tuscola Technology Center where he excelled in automotive technology, competing at state and national levels earning first place in state and second place in national Motorsport mechanics. Early in his life he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and followed in believer’s baptism. He had attended Calvary Chapel in Vassar; recently, First Baptist Church in Cass City and Celebrate Recovery in Caro. One of his favorite hymns was “I’d Rather Have Jesus”. His family finds comfort that he is safe in the arms of Jesus. Through it all he found comfort in his faith and loved the old hymns. He enjoyed watching faith-based, on location documentaries of the Holy lands. He remarked that he wished he’d seen them a lot earlier in life. Josh was known for his natural problem-solving abilities, mechanical talent, and his deep love of motorcycles, tractors, and old cars. He could often be found fixing, tinkering, and pulling over to admire tractors at local retailers. Josh had a unique sense of humor and a very distinct laugh that could fill a room. His laughter brought joy to those around him. More than anything, Josh loved his daughters, Morgan and Lilly, who meant the world to him. He also cared deeply for his nieces and nephews and cherished the time he spent with them.

David “Dave” A. Hacker of Elkton, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at McLaren Thumb Region in Bad Axe, Michigan. Dave was born on February 9, 1937, in Bad Axe, to the late Alexander and Minnie (Kroupa) Hacker and was a 1955 graduate of Elkton High School. He held various positions throughout his years, helping his father on the family farm in his younger years and working at several machine shops and factories throughout the region. Dave helped start Huron Tool and Engineering and retired as a machinist from the company in 2000. He met Janet Kay Andersen at a roller rink and a year later the couple would marry on September 19, 1959. She survives him. Dave loved the outdoors and felt at peace in nature, camping with his family and teaching woodcraft to children throughout the area as a Scout Leader in the Boy Scouts. He was a deeply faithful man and lifelong member of Harvest Church in Bad Axe where he was a board member, taught Sunday School, and served as a Royal Ranger Leader. He traveled with Janet throughout the country and spent his winters in Tucson, Arizona. Dave was a laid-back man who enjoyed the simple things in life, like sitting back and watching the Tigers or spending time with his beloved family.

Six Grandchildren: Lindsey (Greg) DeJonge of Zeeland, Mark (Amanda) McTaggart of Traverse City, Autumn Norton of Mount Pleasant, April (Nick) Osburn of Mount Pleasant, Thomas (Kate) Norton of Port Hope, and Alex Lackowski of Filion. Eight great grandchildren: Fynlee DeJonge, Olive McTaggart, Henry DePottey, Carter Osburn, Charlotte Osburn, Michaella Norton, Londyn Norton and Piper Lackowski, sister-in-law: Donna Woolner of Capac and many nieces and nephews. Kay was a very loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, and will be deeply missed. Kay was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Jeanette Woolner, her husband Harold, brothers: Kenneth, James, Bernard, Alvin, Francis and infant Clarence, and her sister infant Sarah, brothers and sisters-in-law: Donald and Luetta (Gray) McTaggart, Neil McTaggart and Donald McTaggart, Ellen Jean (Thomas) Maus, her step mother Lorraine Apley Woolner, and nieces and nephews. Kathryn Ellen "Kay" McTaggart, age 95 of Port Hope, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of her own home, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Kay was born on February 19, 1931 in Grindstone City, Michigan, to the late Alvin and Jeanette (McCachen) Woolner. Kay graduated from Cass City High School in 1949. Soon after graduating, Kay got a job at Frutchey Bean Co. in Cass City as the office girl. Her boss, Art Atwell, gave her the nickname Kay, because it was easier for him to remember. Kay and some friends travelled to Bad Axe on night, to the roller rink, where she met a handsome, young man, named Harold McTaggart. Harold and Kay were united in marriage on May 5, 1951 at the Gagetown Nazarene Church. Harold preceded her in death on May 2, 2016, just a few days shy of their 65th wedding anniversary. Kay then got a job working at Bad Axe Grain, where Harold also worked til 1956, when they moved their family to Port Hope. Together Harold and Kay founded Thumb Farm Service Inc. in 1971 with grain elevators in Port Hope, Ubly, and Ruth. Kay was the secretary/treasurer for Thumb Farm Service for over 40 years. Kay was a member of the Port Hope United Methodist Church, the Port Hope United Methodist Women, where she served as the treasurer for many years, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Grindstone Port Hope Sportsmen Club, the Port Hope Chamber of Commerce, and the Port Hope Community School PTA. Kay and Harold moved to Florida for over 30 years, spending much of their time in Zephyrhills, Florida, where they made some amazing friends.

Mary Ann Wisneski (91), passed away on Wednesday, March 11th, 2026 at McLaren Thumb Regional Hospital in Bad Axe, with family by her side. Mary Ann was born on January 28th 1935 to Aloysius & Lucy (Smaglinski) Kubacki in Bingham Twp. She married Eugene “Frosty” Wisneski, on June 7th, 1958 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Smith’s Corners. Mary Ann graduated from Ubly High School in 1954 where she was a proud member of the percussion section of the band. She worked in the housekeeping department of Hubbard Hospital until she was blessed to be a stay at home mom. She provided baby-sitting for family and neighbors before going back to work at Huron County Medical Care Facility, where she worked as a dietary-aide until her retirement. Mary Ann enjoyed baking various treats for others to enjoy, as well as tending to her many flower and vegetable gardens for years, to then do the long hours of prepping and canning their harvest of fruits and vegetables. She took pride in stripping and reupholstering old furniture, was a bowler in the ladies and mixed leagues, loved to sew and quilt, helped with her daughter’s 4H group, and provided housecleaning services. She and her husband went on numerous trips and even more with her children, always loving to travel. Mary Ann enjoyed having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit and watching them participate in their many school activities. After losing her sight, she spent much of the last 20 years making rosaries with her husband and daughter Mary Kay, listening to daily prayer services on TV, saying many, many rosaries daily for all family members, listening to polkas and country music, and was always willing to still dance an oberek or waltz when asked. She was the most kind hearted, caring, sympathetic, sweet, non-judgmental, generous, happy, smiley, fun, humble, and loveable lady. Always blessing others with “book-sop-watch”, her God Bless You.

Carol was born in Grand Rapids Michigan on June 17, 1955 to the late Donald and Barbara (Holland) Rohl. She and Keith (Pete) Heintz were married July 7, 1984 and were married for 40 years. Carol enjoyed trips to the casinos, doubting on her grandchildren, giving golf cart rides, and many camping adventures. Shirley (Sturgis) Blome, 91 of Elkton, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026 at Rose Garden Senior Living surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born on February 17, 1935 in Berkley, MI, to the late Clarence and Clara Kipfer. She graduated from Owendale High School in 1952. She was a long time member of the Free Methodist Church in Bad Axe. In her younger years, Shirley worked at Michigan Bell Telephone in the Yellow Pages department and at the Dairy Bar. She later worked at Pigeon Elementary School. A dedicated and hardworking woman, Shirley helped build and operate Sturgis Plumbing and Heating alongside her husband, Richard. Following Richard's passing in 1984, she sold the business to Shetler Plumbing and Heating and continued working there until her retirement. She also worked at Catering Connection of Bad Axe. On January 28, 1953, Shirley married Richard Sturgis. Together they buyilt a life centered on faith, family and hard work, and were blessed with four children: Linda Czyzewski, Cindy Sturgis, Wanda Sturgis, and Scott (Laui) Sturgis: and grandchildren: Joell Schlabach, Joscelyne Schlabach, Trent (Erica) Schlabach, Ashley (Todd) Stevens, Jessica (Marcus) King, and step-granddaughter: Dani (Tim) Cook. Shirley was later blessed with a second chance at love when she married John Blome on July 7, 1998. Through this marriage, she lovingly gained three stepchildren: David (Joyce Buchanan) Blome, Paul (Nancy) Blome, and John Blome; and four step grandchildren: Rachel Blome, Robert Blome, Rebecca Blome, and Ryan Blome. Shirley was the proud matriarch of a large and loving family, including thirteen great-grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, playful jokes and pranks, and her fun-loving spirit. Shirley spent her winters in Florida with her daughter and grand dog Hudson. She also enjoyed cooking, quilting and baking. She was especially known for her beautiful and creative cake decorating, sharing her talents generously with family and friends for countless celebrations over the years.

Bernard “Ben” J. Leese, age 80, formerly of Port Hope, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Hampton Manor of Van Buren, under hospice care. He was born on September 19, 1945 in Harbor Beach to the late Harold and Gertrude (Champaign) Leese. He and Maxine Guitar were united in marriage on May 27, 1972. She preceded him in death on June 25, 1994. Ben and JoAnne Jeffers were united in marriage on August 31, 1996 in Port Hope. Ben worked as a designer for Ford Motor Company for 31 years, retiring in 2000. Ben also served in the US Army during Vietnam. Ben enjoyed playing cards, watching all sports, visiting with friends and family, fishing, and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed helping people and would do anything to help a friend in need.

Robert James “Jim” Craig, 88 years old of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026 with his family by his side. Jim was born to the late John and Isabelle (St George) Craig on December 26, 1937. He and Elsie Shepherd were married for 44 years. Jim and Elsie loved to travel to their cabin, stop at garage sales, check out the local wind turbines and take crop tours. He totally adored Elsie and the time they spent together, and he never stopped talking about his granddaughters. He always spoke fondly of starting out his career working for Harry Clancy before moving onto the Huron County Road Commission for 35 years before his retirement. Jim spent his free time working in his yard, cutting firewood, running his skid-steer, tinkering on small engines in the garage, as long as there wasn’t a NASCAR race on. Racing was in his bones as he raced on the local dirt tracks in the 60’s with a team of his brothers and friends. After suffering a bad racing accident, his future in the sport was ended. Later he was able to help his son with his racing career.

Ten grandchildren: Daniel (Emily) Schuman of Ada, Leah (Larry) Reid of Marquette, Keith Schuman of Bad Axe, Ashley Schuman (Michael Thompson) of Colorado Springs, William (Ashley Evon) Schuman of Freeland, Christopher (Stacy) Trelewski of Bay City, Jennifer (Jeremy) Johnson of Saginaw, Donald (Pam Wolschlager) Apley of Bad Axe, grandaughter-in-law Rachel Apley of Essexville, Jeremy (Maddy) Apley of Filion. Thirteen great grandchildren: Benjamin and Micah, Nora Schuman; Alice, Marie and Olive Reid, Ivy Schuman, and one little Schuman on the way, Alexis Trelewski, Elliana and Lilyana Johnson; Zachary and Natalie Apley, Allison Apley. Her brother and sister-in-law Milton and Judy Etzler, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Don, in-laws: William and Matilda Schuman, daughter-in-law Doraleth (Dodi) Schuman, son-in-law Larry Apley, grandson Michael Apley, sister and brother-in-law: Betty Jo and Harold Schuman, and William (Jack) and Evelyn Ruby.
Arvilla Marie Schuman, age 95 of Bad Axe, passed away at Meadow Lanes Assisted Living on Saturday, February 21, 2026. Arvilla was born on October 5, 1930 in Kinde, to the late Rueben and Helena (Moeller) Etzler. She married Donald Schuman at St. John Lutheran Church in Midland on December 3, 1949. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde for many years, before transferring to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. Arvilla was a typical mother caring for her family. She enjoyed sewing and did lots of mending for her family. Her most favorite was cooking and baking, her donuts and sticky buns were the best. She also enjoyed looking for bargains at estate sales and antique shops. She was a 4 H Leader when her children were younger and all involved.

Doris is survived by her son Gerald (Cindy) Glaza of Canton, MI; Joan (Ronald) Smith of Bath, MI; Janet (Donald) Williams of West Bloomfield, MI; and Diana (Ed Fedewa) Gover of Lansing; nine grandchildren, Matthew Glaza, Julie (Matt) Huenemann, Jane (Andy) Brachulis, Justin Smith, Andrew Smith, Blake (Natalia) Williams, Mareka Glaza, Max Gover, and Elle Gover; five great grandchildren, Jack, Miles, and Leo Huenemann, Beatrice and Josephine Brachulis and sister in law Genevieve (Ronald) Gorang. She was preceded in death by a son Michael J. Glaza; siblings, Eugene (Vera) Priemer, Johanna (Jack) Oborski, Colletta (Norbert) Magalski, Rita (Bernard) Oberski, Winnie (Henry) Sofka, her twin Delores (Harold) Higgins-Frantz, Joseph (June) Priemer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley R. (Gertrude) Glaza, Susan (Reynold) Deachin-Tschirhart, Edward (Edna) Glaza, Mildred (John) Antos, Margaret (Ambrose) Michalski-Chinoski, and Delores (Felix) Dapkus. The family would like to give special thanks to McLaren Hospice and CorsoCare at StoryPoint East Lansing for their compassionate care of Doris during these difficult times.
Mrs. Doris M. Glaza, 102, formerly of Ubly, Michigan, passed away February 19, 2026 in East Lansing, Michigan where she had resided for the past 12 years. She was born on July 22, 1923 to Lucas and Anna Priemer (Hessling) of Ruth, Michigan. She married John (Jack) W. Glaza in 1941 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth, Michigan. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2000 after 58 years of marriage. Doris was an excellent seamstress, sewing many clothes for her family and her granddaughters’ dolls. She also made many quilts for her children and grandchildren. She loved sewing and quilted many years with relatives and friends. After her five children were raised, she worked at the Ubly seat belt factory as a sewing machine operator. Doris was a parishioner of St. John Catholic Church (Good Shepherd Parish) in Ubly where she was also a member of the Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella. After retirement, Doris and Jack spent many winters in Holiday, FL. In her later years she was very active in the Huron County senior citizens group in Bad Axe, taking many lunches there and enjoying card games.

Dan and Jean had two children: Daniel Jr. and Amy Jean. She is survived by her children, Dan (Tanya) Kramer and Amy (John) Wilson; grandchildren, Nicole (Nathan) Fellows, Austin and Cecilia Kramer, Katelin and Megan Wilson; four great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Madison, Adam, and Nora Fellows; her sisters, Judy Messing, Cheryl Hill, Luanne (Calvin) Oberski; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Sylvia; her husband, Daniel; her brother-in-law, Jerome Messing; her sister, Karen (Harold) Gornowich; and her brother-in-law, Jim Hill.
Jean R. Kramer, age 80, of Harbor Beach, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2026; her work on Earth was done. She was born on June 17, 1945, in Harbor Beach, to the late Eugene and Sylvia (Rumptz) Priemer. Jean was the third of five girls. Family was very important to Jean. Her other hobbies included sewing, embroidering, quilting, and playing cards. On April 4, 1964, Jean and Daniel Kramer were united in marriage. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2023. Jean was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and was an altar server for many years. She worked at SSPP School as an aide for over 20 years and was the cook at the school during the last two years it was open. She also worked for Dian Volmering for some 25 years, preparing and catering meals for many. Jean also helped Dan on the farm for many years.
