Shirley Ann Lieke Purdy, age 91, of Harbor Beach, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 16, 2024. She was born on October 20, 1932 to the late Edward and Selma (Weiss) Liedke. She married Richard Purdy on October 11, 1952. Shirley's children were her life and was quick to tell everyone that she had five daughters. She also had a niche for house work and never left her house unkept. She had a great love for music, and taught herself to play the piano and accordion by ear.

Genevieve is survived by her son Dennis (Gail) Moore of Simpsonville, SC; daughter-in-law Bonnie Moore of Millington; grandchildren Kytt Everdeen Moore, Carey (John) Goldsworthy, Robert (Jill) Moore, and Michael Moore; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Kenneth in 2018 and her siblings Ruby Ewald, Vince Sturm and Willard Sturm.
Genevieve was born August 25, 1922 at home in McKinley Twp to the late Edward and Mary (Salzer) Sturm. She married John C. Moore on April 24, 1943 at the Owendale Methodist Parsonage; he preceded her in death August 14, 2007. Genevieve really meant a lot to so many people. She was so much fun to talk with and be around, and it was noticeable to people only meeting her for the first time. Right up until the end she would talk about the last time you were with her, what happened last week, and so many stories from such a rich life. Genevieve was blessed with such good people in her life. So many friends and family have cared for this spunky and sweet lady. Dennis and Gail were in constant contact with her, getting her anything that could make her life better in any way, big or small. Bonnie cared for her husband’s mother as if she were her own. So many people called her, visited her, sent her cards, and celebrated special moments. All that helped her really love life in a time and place where so many others are alone. To all of you that cared for Toots, thank you. Thank you for loving this woman.

Betty Lou Fritz, 74, of Owendale, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Betty was born April 24, 1949 in Pigeon to the late Frank and Mary (Washe) Welchner. She graduated from Owen-Gage High School in 1967. On April 20, 1968 she married Lloyd Fritz Sr. at the Owendale United Methodist Church; he preceded her in death November 20, 2023. Betty loved being home with family, baking and raising her grandchildren. She was a devoted member of Potter’s House Church in Cass City. She enjoyed camping with friends and family, reading and crocheting blankets.

Nancy is a member of Saint Columbkille Catholic Church, she worked many years at Hamill (seat belt) Factory, IGA Foodliner, and McDonald’s Food and Family Center. She was a very hard worker as a farmer’s wife. She loved reading, putting puzzles together, gardening with her family, walking and shopping and having coffee with friends and especially with her sisters. Larry J. Osantowski, 67, of Gagetown, died unexpectedly January 10, 2024 at home. He was born February 3, 1956 to Marcus and Joan (Doerr) Osantowski. Larry married Christine Ann Strozeski June 9, 1979 in Argyle. Larry graduated from Ubly High School in 1974 and was employed by General Cable for twenty-five years. He worked at Vita Plus until his retirement. Larry loved spending time with his grandchildren. He proudly attended his grandsons’ baseball games and his granddaughter’s dance recitals. Larry always bought a box of Valentine candy for his wife, kids and grandchildren. He loved watching Western and Karate movies. Larry was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, especially coyotes, and fishing. Larry smoked his own venison sausage. He was always there when someone needed him and would drop everything to help family and friends. Larry always wanted everything to be perfect and was fond of saying, “put stuff back where you found it”. He will be greatly missed.

Kathleen A. Peruski, age 88, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Meadow Lane Assisted Living in Bad Axe, with her devoted husband of 62 years by her side. She was born September 3, 1935 in Harbor Beach to the late Henry and Adelaide (Terbrack) Hessling. She married Alvin D. Peruski on November 25, 1961 in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Helena. She resided in Parisville for 60 years and was a life-long member of St. Mary's - St. Isidore Catholic Church, Parisville. Kathleen attended Fillmore School through eighth grade and graduated high school through Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School-Harbor Beach. She continued her education by attending Port Huron Business School where she received her business degree and worked in the Huron County Veterans Affairs Office for many years.

Pat was born to Franklin and Mina (Gotham) Burgett on October 26, 1934 in Deckerville, MI. She is survived by her husband Ron Kuhl (Sebewaing); three daughters- Debra Jackson (Bay City), Diane Jackson (Saginaw), and Sharon Jackson (Sebewaing); five grandchildren- Carissa Smith (Bay City), Shamar Colon (Milwaukee, WI), Erin Welton (Bay City), Melissa Geiseman (Raleigh, NC), and Tyler Jackson (Grand Rapids); seven great grandchildren- Eric, Elijah, Jaden, Sophie, Olive, Opal and Mazie; and two brothers; William Burgett (Bay City) and James Burgett (Sebewaing). Pat was more than just the matriarch of her family; she was the glue that held them together through the ups and downs of life. She was tough as nails and played the hand she was dealt with incredible resilience. Many holidays you would find her in the kitchen, cooking delicious meals and hosting her daughters and their families. Pat was extremely charismatic, funny, fierce, competitive, and sassy. She loved to play dice, garden, cook, and try her luck at the slot machines. Her grandkids and great grandkids were the light of her life.

Lawrence William “Larry” Osentoski, age 78, of Bad Axe, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born on July 22, 1945 in Bad Axe, son of the late Floyd and Lucille (Pionk) Osentoski. Larry had a love for playing the drums and was in a polka band for years. He was active in the Ubly Jaycees and played both right field and catcher for the Cumber Softball team. He was one of the best polka dancers in the Thumb.

He was born on March 19, 1939 in McCrory, Arkansas, to the late Hal and Nellie (Patterson) Dunn. Lloyd and Vivian Clayton were united in marriage on June 25, 1965 in Richmond, Michigan. Lloyd was a Tool and Die Setter for many years. He enjoyed listening to music, fishing, hunting, any outdoor activity, was a great story teller, and most of all loved being with his friends, family and especially his grandchildren.

Mary Ann Greyerbiehl, age 83 of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024 after a short illness. She was born on June 1, 1940 in Bad Axe, daughter of the late Jacob Henry Greyerbiehl and Stella (Dzukola) Boss. Mary Ann was a long time attendee of the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene and their weekly Bible Study. Her faith was shown through her actions and attitude toward life. Mary Ann loved life and always stayed positive and cheerful even when life gave her immense challenges. At a very young age, she survived an accident that disabled her for the rest of her life, which she endured with grace and dignity. A beautiful smile was an ever presence on her face. For many years, Mary Ann enjoyed working at Thumb Industries Thrift Store up until age 80. Her deeply loved interests were her family, dolls, purses, music records, puzzles, yarn, coloring books with crayons, French fries and potato chips.

Anna is survived by her sons; Eugene (Patsy) of Linden, Robert (Jo) of Hillsdale, Ronald (Deb) of Bad Axe, Patrick (Vicki) of Perry; daughter Sharon (Stephen) Reynolds of Florida; sisters Janet Roberts, Christine (Kenneth) Roggenbuck; sister-in-law Sally Rutkowski; grandchildren Leah, Dawn, Stephanie, Rebecca; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers; Hank Rutkowski, Stanley (Marilyn) Rutkowski; sisters Bernadete Rutkowski, Virginia Rutkowski, Marie Essenmacher; sister and brother-in-law Teresa and Joe Moriceri; granddaughter Megan Essenmacher.
Anna Irene Essenmacher, 91 years old of Bad Axe, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Meadow Lanes with her family by side. She was born on October 20, 1932 to the late Frank and Rose (Helewski) Rutkowski in Ubly. She married Richard Essenmacher on May 13, 1950 and they were married for 59 years before he passed away in 2009. Anna enjoyed quilting, was known for her beautiful flower gardens and loved to travel with her husband. She loved to volunteer at her church, giving communion to shut-ins and helping with dinners. Anna was very proud of her service in the health field and began as an aide, then went on to receive her LPN and received her RN degree when she was in her 50’s, and cherished her time helping many people at the Medical Care facility where she worked for years.

Helen Lucille Young, 96, of Elkton, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. Helen was born December 20, 1927 at home in Pigeon to the late Edward and Anna (Hercliff) Damm. She attended Little Turner School and graduated from Pigeon High School in 1945. On May 4, 1946 she married Clayton Rae Young at the Pigeon Methodist Church; he preceded her in death on December 2, 2002. They lived and farmed in Oliver Twp all their married lives. They started traveling to Florida in the late 1970's for a few weeks at a time. In 1985 they began to spend winters there. She attended Evangel Life Assembly of God Church in Bad Axe and Sun-N Fun Community Church in Sarasota, Florida. She was treasurer there for 20 years.

Albin Edward Bresky, age 73 of Kinde passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 in his home. Albin was born on August 13, 1950 in Bad Axe to the late Edward & Genevieve (Matelski) Bresky of Fillion. Albin & Suzanne (Farrelly) were united in marriage on November 30, 1974 in Kinde. Albin grew up loving and having a passion for farming and roofing, skills he learned from his father and grandfather. In 1985 Albin started his own residential construction company Bresky Roofing & Building Repair, now known as Bresky Siding & Building Repair. He cherished moments on rooftops, fixing and building things especially with his own kids and grandkids. Gardening was his favorite hobby, especially growing watermelon & pumpkins for his grandkids. Hunting was another thrill he loved to share with his sons and grandsons. Albin was a devoted husband and loving father & grandfather who was very hard working. His legacy lives on through the love he sowed & the memories he leaves behind.

Benita Anderson, 90, of Harbor Beach passed away Monday, January 1, 2024, at Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Facility surrounded by her family. Born in Pennsylvania on August 20, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lenna Polio. John and Benita Anderson were united in marriage on March 28, 1953, in Angola, Indiana. They had a wonderful 54 years together. Benita was loved by so many. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved animals, especially her grand dogs. She also enjoyed golfing and going to casinos.

Dave is survived by his wife Cindy. Two daughters, DaviJo Ferris (Steve Bruce) of Caseville and Stacey Smukala (William Chubb) of Saginaw. David Frederick Ferris age 76 passed away peacefully at Bay McClaren regional hospital on December 31, 2023 after a very brief illness. He was surrounded by his wife and children. David was born May 6, 1947 to the late Roy and Marjorie (Haskins) Ferris. At the age of five he and his family relocated to Kinde Mi. On August 3, 1991 he married the love of his life Cindy Smith. They had 32 wonderful years of marriage together. Dave loved the outdoors, tinkering and fixing things. His passion was antique cars and trucks. He loved to unwind while watching Gunsmoke. Most of all Dave had an unconditional love for his family. He was the best husband, father and papa. His grandson Henry was his sidekick and he loved every minute of it. Dave retired from Tower automotive after 38 1/2 years of service. He wouldn’t stay retired for long, completing an additional 15 years of service with Lake Township Station. Being the kind of man who couldn’t sit still, he retired a total of three times. He met so many people while working at the transfer station. Each one easily becoming a friend. He cherished every friendship made. Most would say, to know him was to love him. He had a heart of gold, always willing to help anyone I need.

Melvin J. Gentner, age 81 of Ruth, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023. He was born on March 3, 1942 to the late Leland and Emma Gentner. Melvin and Carol Kanaski were united in marriage on November 7, 1964 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dwight Township. Melvin graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul School in 1960, where he was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He worked at several small factories and farmed. In 1964 he opened his own business, Gentner Sales and Service, starting with snowmobiles, small engines and lawn equipment. He was a scout master, member of the Parish Township Board, Huron County Board of Appeals, was a lector, eucharistic minister and usher at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, was a driver for the Gemini Group for 20 years. He enjoyed polka music and dancing, playing euchre, going to tractor pulls, deer hunting, and deer camps. Melvin enjoyed going to toy tractor shows and collecting them. After he retired from farming he would ride around in his side-by-side/buggy and check on the crops and count deer. He had a thriving repair business; there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. He loved working on small engines. Melvin was an excellent problem solver. The family saying goes, "If you didn't learn anything from Papa, you weren't listening!"

Howard J. Griffore, age 86 of Port Hope, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family, under hospice care. He was born on December 11, 1937 in Saginaw to the late Howard & Emily (Nagel) Griffore. Howard and Patricia Griffore were united in marriage on January 31, 1958 in Detroit. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2020. Howard Served in the US Coast Guard from 1957-1960, serving as the Lighthouse Keeper of the Eastern Point Lighthouse in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Howard worked as a plant engineer for Ford Motor Company for 30 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope. He enjoyed family get togethers, smoking his pipe, cajun music, and dancing. He loved to be with his family
